SRG SSR, the Swiss public broadcaster, this Leap Day, has shut down its HD channel, HD Suisse, and replaced it with HD simulcasts of its six main channels: SF 1 and SF zwei (in German), RTS Un and RTS Deux (formerly TSR 1 and TSR 2, respectively, in French), RSI La 1 and RSI La 2 (in Italian).

There are small changes, in the SF and RSI logos (now carrying the same typeface as their parent).

And big changes, in the SF news bulletins:

That's all much nicer than the old stuff. The French channels in particular had a pretty awful logo and although those new ones aren't perfect they are far superior.

Hard to believe that single HD channel for 4 languages lasted as long as it did.

About the Brazilian stuffs, are the voice overs on the ident some sort of continuity announcements lite British TV channels do?

I saw Rede Globo having a 5-sec countdown. What's that, do other networks do that too?

And, I have no idea what those short sequences on Globo called "PLANTAO" are.

Sweden's public broadcaster SVT abolished in-vision continuity tonight. The last IVC went out at 22:50 on SVT1, ending a practice dating back to the 1950s. From tomorrow, the announcers will only be present in the form of voice-overs.

Tomorrow will also see a new look for most of SVT's channels. More on it here:

Very unimaginative idents for SVT1, compared to the last. SVT2's are almost the same.

I was thinking the same about SVT1. Very basic scene with logo added on to the end. Reminds me of so many failed packages over the years. I don't know why broadcasters except it from companies.
SVT2's package works very well, whilst keeping basic it creates an environment within the numeral that is only revealed on the pan out.

Apparently, the idents that were sent out to the press weren't the ones that SVT1 ended up using. The actual idents use the same footage and music, but have a slightly more imaginative end board with a 3D version of the logo. Nothing uploaded to YouTube yet.

RTS Une and Deux new logos are pretty horrific.
And to think 10 years ago TSR1 and 2 had a great, yet simple branding device for it's channels. It was a dice, with one dot for TSR1 and err, two dots TSR2. Clear and effective.

Now - what have they done? Got some logos that look like a minor explosion at a paper streamer factory. Dreadful

And to badly translate that article into English...

Sunday was the last time NRK's Swedish sister channel SVT used the channel hosts, or so-called "hello ladies" on the screen. From now on SVT's program presentation be made through voice and text on the screen.

The decision has caused massive reactions among the Swedish people. The newspaper Aftonbladet has conducted a poll on the Internet, where over 122,000 people have responded to whether they will miss SVTs hello ladies. The survey, 80% answered yes to the question, and in comments to the matter is not gracious readers.

"Complete madness! Making radio of television is completely wrong! Take back the caps on the decision, "writes Bo Fransson.

"I do not think that they disappear. We hear that poor people will see who is speaking. And think of all that lonely perhaps as these (channel hosts, journ.anm.) As their friends, "writes Maud Olsson.

Channel hosts have been a staple at SVT since they started their television broadcasts. At the beginning of the 90th century chose to go the management of the program presentation with sound and no picture, but the decision is made as large reactions among the public that the channel hosts were re-introduced after six months.

- Not an option for NRK

TV Director for Norwegian, Arne Helsing, says NRK do not plan to follow in the footsteps of SVT.

- No, we have considered dropping the channel hosts. We choose instead to develop them on the screen of NRK1 also in the future, he said.

- We see the force of that in NRK is present with several people who can provide information on NRK's services on all platforms. We also have a channel will be clear as to guide the public in the event of things, and inform about what is happening and for additional broadcasts.

- Many people feel that they probably know us

Ingvild Helljesen which is hosted in channel NRK, says she thinks it's a shame that her Swedish colleagues disappear from the screen.

She believes the public in Norway appreciates channel hosts.

- Absolutely. And we get feedback as well. They feel that they probably know us a little bit too. And many people find good company in the U.S.. I have also a very strong sense of community with people when I'm on duty. It's nice to be able to share experiences and also tell about the rich and diverse offer NRK, she said.

- Very sad

Although many of the major TV channels in Europe have chosen to join the channel hosts, there are still some countries that hold again. Both Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, Finland and Italy have continued the program presentation with channel hosts.

Justine Kirk, who was the last Swedish channel host thanked on Sunday (see video at the top of the article) think it is sad to leave.

- It's kjempevemodig. I love this course. I've been so nice and friendly shouts of attention. I am proud that I got to the last, but I'll probably first to understand that it's over when it's been a few days, she says to Aftonbladet

SVT has posted a somewhat random collection of IVC in the archive section.

And here's a compilation of all IVC links from March 4.
