Hmm... I wonder if that was more a speculative demo reel rather than unused idents for broadcast. Because, even for American television, having the three main networks going to the same graphics company to produce their idents would be highly unusual.

I think this probably deserved its own thread

New look for Irish language channel TG4.
This puts S4C new look to shame..I still can't believe they decided to drop their more authentic previous package for a very bland one.. is this where we're heading?

Quite like the NBC effort - at least the logo evolves from that.

Not too sure about the CBS and NBC ones myself - probably could have seen ABC using theirs as a real ident back in the day.

Did S4C have a new look yet? Cos I'm sure they're using the current 2014 look still.
Also I like the new look TG4, very colourful and quirky, especially those Irish folklore-inspired idents

These folklore-inspired idents are so cool! I really like TG4's new idents!

I may be in the minority here but I just don’t get them. They’re visually pleasing, the Celtic audio logo and ambient sounds are lovely, but I don’t understand the visuals; for example I watched the Ident with the rabbits and appreciated the design and construction of rabbits diving between the holes, when people were mixed into proceedings I became confused.

Plus the Ident with the creature at the sea gave me vibes from channel 4’s not so well received idents a few years ago.

Yeah the ones before the 2014 ones, for me these are still new lol (I might be getting old 🤣)

Those before the 2014 ones were so cool and quirky, unlike the boring and generic 2014 ones

To each its own.

For me Channel 4's were often just strange full stop, but at least these use more CGI, have a more fun approach, not to forget TG4 has always been a bit strange and quirky full stop.

And idents HAVE to be sometimes risky and fun, sometimes I noticed British TV ones have become less "risk-taking", or sometimes too complex , even when not needed. Sometimes less (especially less live action) is more , and sometimes more (especially CGI) is OK, if you know what I mean

Did you read the article or just watch the ident videos? It explains the idents and what they mean, a few of them tie in to Irish folklore. TG 4 has adopted the "expect the unexpected" stance for the past 10 years or so and the idents are a mix of that idea along with other elements.

Yes, that's another important factor.

These idents have a meaning in them

RTL are going to unify their brand across all countries later in the year. I'm surprised they haven't done this earlier, it's a real hodgepodge of logos, including some really nasty ones. Their Dutch portfolio has a horrible range of totally different logos for each channel. I've always liked the German one though. I wonder if the new one will be inspired by any of the existing logos.
