There are some US shows I don't mind., such as New Day which gets unceremoniously gets cut off for CNN Talk, but the State of America show is domestic padding that shouldn't be on an international channel.

State of America may look like domestic padding, but it's custom-produced for CNN International. It doesn't air on CNN Domestic.

Even worse.

Amanpour being extended will hopefully improve the evening schedule on CNNI - either side of Quest and Hala is a bit of a mess frankly for viewers in Europe. Knowing CNN it'll probably end up that one of the better shows like HGT or QMB is shortened to fit State of America in.

The schedule in general could do with a lot of work - without even getting to how US centric the content is.

There are way too many US simulcasts. You do have to accept there will be simulcasts and ones like Anderson Cooper 360, State of the Union and Fareed Zakaria GPS do add value whereas hours like Inside Politics (Sundays), Wolf and Reliable Sources could easily be replaced by international bulletins. What is a show about american media doing airing on an international channel?
Similarly, there are far too many canned programs - at weekends but also on weekdays.

The annoying thing with CNN is that there is the hint of a good schedule there. CNN Talk is an interesting show, the IDesk/Connect The World/Quest Express block is a good section of programming and I really like stuff like CNN Today and Hala's programme more often than not. It's just there's far too much filler and not enough straight international news. Take today for example - there's no international bulletins (bar some quick headline updates) for 5 whole hours which is simply not good enough.

Agree with others that Al Jazeera is a much stronger channel than it at the moment. You're never far there from a bulletin and the AJ bulletins are much more comprehensive and informative.

In a way, Trump era gave them an excuse to multiply the number of simulcasts plus make their own shows more US oriented and ignore many international stories. It's a trend everywhere but is even more evident on CNNI.

How can CNN US get away with blatant bias when Fox get’s attacked? Is it just because Fox is Conservative and not lefties? Makes me so amused but it’s scary.

There are no regulations regulating plurality in the US, so this is why we have Fox News sugar coating Trump, while MSNBC and CNN US bash him.

MSNBC and CNN don't bash him, they just report what he says and what he does. FOX News does neither just feed their viewers with pro-Trump propaganda.

If you think MSNBC and CNN aren't doing the same as Fox News, but for a Democrat audience, then you're not seeing the whole picture. Maddow and Morning Joe are doing exactly the same as Fox. Her ramblings are just as bad as any Fox News opinion show.

The news channels are tightly targeted towards either Republican or Democrat in what is a divided country to attract audiences. News and plurality are second to opinion which is revenue earning in the United States on the main cable networks.

I disagree. Rachel Maddow certainly leans to the left and is strongly anti-Trump, but she doesn't peddle debunked conspiracy theories and outright falsehoods the way Fox News does.

Fox News really has no U.S. equivalent. On a global scale, however, it strongly resembles the likes of RT and Press TV.

Indeed, Maddow's stuff is incredibly well researched and explained in depth. It's a world away from the more tabloidy nature of most US TV news. In fact I can't think of anyone in the UK who gives the sort of context she does with some of her items.

The point still stands that US news channels still preach to the converted. Nobody watches CNN US, MSNBC or Fox News to be informed, it's to hear what is in their own echo chamber. The BBC and Sky at least attempt to inform of both sides, even if they get accused of bias.

There was a time when you'd get US news channels actually spending proper money on things like reporting the news, but is much cheaper to hire the likes of Sean Hannity, Rachel Maddow and the gobs on a stick on Outnumbered, The Five and to bring it back on topic State of America.

Sorry, disagree entirely with you there.

Fox News, and the other right wing channels such as CRTV, Right Side Broadcasting, Newsmax TV, One American News Network and the others, are the only ones preaching to their own converts.

But that still leaves not just "liberals and progressives" but also independents and moderates who have moved away from the likes of FOX News because it has gone so extremist. These people are the ones who watch the likes of CNN and MSNBC. Neither channel is talking to their own tribe. It's only those on the hardline extremist right.

To equate CNN and MSNBC as being somehow mirror images of Fox News, is like saying that every shade of grey that isn't black, is white. It's a gross over-simplification. The only stations that are or were ever a mirror image of Fox News were actually Current TV, and currently Free Speech TV. That's truly it for progressive TV broadcasting in the US, compared to Fox News, CRTV, One American News Network, Newsmax TV, Right Side Broadcasting, CBN News Channel and The Blaze on the conservative side.

Right wing thinking dominates broadcasting compared to progressive viewpoints, which have very limited avenues for getting out there right now, and to say that CNN and MSNBC are mirror images of Fox News is not only factually wrong, but a gross misrepresentation of the facts.

My premium cable lineup must be sorely lacking. Out of all those conservative listed I only get Fox News and CBN because it passes as religious.

Edit : I’m betting most are paying to be on cable or satellite systems. I believe that was the case with Current turned Al Jazeera America and The Blaze which is only on Dish Network. Larger systems such as Comcast, DirecTV or Time Warner Cable/Spectrum probably want the network to pay for carriage on their entire footprint.
