There's loads of panel shows on TV, everything from HIGNFY, Celebrity Juice, Room 101, Mock the Week etc that will use a smaller studio.

They'll all use what would generally be referred to as a medium sized studio, apart from Celebrity Juice they use the two bigger studios at TLS (they're roughly the same size, one has permanent seating though)

They would have used one of the 'medium' studios at TVC - 3,4,6,8

The old Cactus TV studios in Kennington could be a candidate for GMB. Their Studio 1 (formerly home to Richard & Judy, Saturday Kitchen) is larger than Studio 5 at TLS, and presumably the complex has decent facilities for guests and presenters alike.

It needs more than that though, it's not just a case of studio size and where the guests will wait. It needs a good size production office/newsroom, edit suites, graphics area and everything that is needed to produce a live daily news programme.

I suppose if they were really desperate they could have all that in a different location but that's hardly ideal.

Also for whatever reason that Kennington studio isn't soundproofed meaning you can hear sirens and even pigeons outside! No idea how Richard and Judy got through it all those years!

There are also loads of lesser ones on digital channels that come and go, but as the budgets are low for those shows I expect they are more likely to go for a cheaper less well connected studio?

As far as the digital channels go, Dave's Unspun is in one of the larger studios at TLS and Go 8 Bit is at Elstree. Some shows can work well on location at venues that are not TV studios, for example Modern Life is Goodish is made at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill and Series 1 of Taskmaster was made at the Clapham Grand. However for Taskmaster a replica studio set was built in Fountain Studios for series 2 and 3, I think series 4 and 5 will be at Pinewood.

Tv live should be proud of themselves, they are the original source of this article Wink

Er, no I wasn't. The image from that tweet was taken from this website, and I made the mistake of not crediting TVF when I should have done, and I apologise for that.

Its an easy mistake to make, to be fair Rob DID retweet it with acknowledgement to TV forum for a second time. BUT Huffington ( of course Im not surprised at this) shouldn't be taking all its ref from Twitter...

There are plenty of videos on Youtube showing behind the scenes workings at television centre, from studios to offices. Are there any similar videos for The London Studios?

Does this count?

Quite a nice video considering the news.

I wonder if they'll see it off with a special programme like they did with Granada's Quay Street studios?

I think that's unlikely, given that it's just being redeveloped prior to reopening (albeit as a different operation), although it could still happen.

The difference with Granada studios was that they were closing down completely.

I'd be amazed if any of the current shows move to ITN even temporarily. ITN only occupy a tiny fraction of 200 GIR - most of the upper floors are home to ITV offices and other companies. ITN only has 3 studios now - Studio 1 contains a permanent set for ITV News / London, Studio 2 contains a permanent set for Channel 5 News, and Studio 6 contains a permanent set for Channel 4 News. That's literally it. There are no spare studios anymore.

Do you know what ITV departments are in Greys Inn? Is it more legal/backend stuff? Certainly everything creative happens in the South Bank as you'd expect.

Sales, technology, online and Broadcast Operations (including where the on-air presentation schedules are put together). Not the sexiest bits but still crucial parts of the business. Currently itv has less than 3 floors (having had 6 at one point in the mid-2000s) but will be taking over some of the empty space in the near future.

GIR was the home to the Network Centre in the 90s and took over as the registered office of ITV plc when it was formed - it was only in 2009 when all the bosses moved to South Bank. Looks like that will all be reversed for a few years.

There's the 24 hour broadcast Phillip Schofield did last December, which had plenty of behind the scenes bits
