The Big Breakfast to return?

They found it hard to refresh & modernise the format in 2001 before it reverted to its 90's stylings. Would they be able to do a good job of it today?

Like others, I'm sceptical about these reports. If it was attempted as an early 20th anniversary tribute to coincide with the Olympics, it may work to grab a number of viewers, but I'm not sure what could happen in the future. I do think that there would be an audience to a news alternative breakfast programme, but is the big breakfast the way to go about it?

I used to love Big Breakfast! I think right now we could all do with waking up with something a bit funny in the mornings! And also it would be great for a summer filler- nothing permanent but a "pilot" of sorts! Why not bring back Chris and Gabby, Kelly and Lilly and see what happens? It would make great summer tv and who knows stick Pugwall and Crystal Maze on after then i've gone back 20 years to good old summer holidays!

Anyway for visitors of the olympics it would show them the humorous side to Britain- just like Danny Boyle wants! Bring it I say! : )

Well Chris Evans has other commitments in the morning. If it did come back using any of the old presenters would be a disaster as they're too old. Even Richard Bacon has mellowed out too much in recent years.

I think it can come back and be up to date, im not sure bringing old presenters back would be a good idea, but there is good talent out there that could deliver the funny mad content, they could hire Russell Howard, he's quick, not adverse to dressing up in silly costumes.

Its worth a punt as Daybreak is a nothingness of a show, bbc breakfast is good but only serves serious news people, whats needed is something you can get up, turn on, watch have a laff and talk about when you get to work.

Big Breakfast did that for 10 years, it can do it again!

Sooner the better I think !

Was reading somewhere last night that Amanda Byram could be in the running for it if it's coming back. Think she could be a good choice for it.....

Anyone could be in running for it, Amanda Bryram almost certainly wouldn't get it though.

And why not? She seems almost to good for it! She's done all the Emmy kinda stuff for FOX in the past, seems wacky enough to do Total Wipeout, need I go on?

She's just a bit 'meh'.

She was a pretty good stand-in presenter on Liquid News back in the day as well.

She seems to have flourished a lot as a presenter since her time on The Big Breakfast. Her appearances as a stand - in on something for the weekend recently have shown just this.

This reminds me of that story "TOTP to return online" - except it's a simulcast of the last hour of the Radio 1 Chart Show with videos so not TOTP at all.

Unless it's a one-off to mark the anniversary or to tie-in with the Olympics, the show should just be left to rest. The passage of time can be quite kind to shows that were universally derided by the end - Noel's House Party seems the obvious example of that, look at the warm comments under the full episodes on You Tube. Bringining it back won't help with that perception, especially given with The BB the sheer turnover of ideas on 10 hours a week meant that there were only two relatively brief periods in the decade on air where it was really that good.

I suspect there's quite a lot of journalistic license regarding this report. Of course a programme like that can't be brought back as if it never went away and even if a programme come back with the same presenters, name and location it won't be that programme.

However I suspect the idea is just to do a programme from that house during the Olympics.... and the Big Breakfast comeback idea has been created by the papers.

Certainly it's a great location for a non-BBC broadcaster to get a piece of the action. If you look at http://g.co/maps/jgfvw it is the building with the pool marked 'lock cottage'. Move up the map and it's the only building left on that side of the River Lea, a good opportunity to be near the action.
