Here we go then, with almost 2 months to go, the 'usual' Christmas TV ads have started airing. The clocks haven't even changed yet!

From what I've already seen..It seems Argos are..predictably..using Roy Wood and his song I Wish It Could Be Xmas Everyday for their Christmas branding this year and DFS are promoting the "sofa in time for Christmas" to the dongs of Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas.

I'm sure Woolworths will follow within the next few days. Roll on M&S and Boots.

I apologise for being a Christmas ad fanatic! Confused

Well M&S have got their christmas theme in their shops, so I think we will see it on TV soon. Its lilac and purple wavey lines, with some purple stars.

The Next Christmas commercial was filmed in Edinburgh four weeks ago, complete with fake snow and fairy lights.

A bit early to discuss the Coca Cola advert but I did miss "Holiday's Are Coming.." last year. Yes the new one was equally as good if only they'd put the original music to it: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Asps-R6NQQQ

The music actually syncs with the video quite well! But I'm afraid it's not enough, I want the trucks back this year Very Happy I'm sure they will. Coca-Cola received a lot of complaints last year and agreed to give the trucks advert one showing, just before Christmas. I think it was during the Friday Night Project? Anyway, I videoed it and still have it somewhere Embarassed

In Northern Ireland it was played with the original 'Holidays are coming' music. I posted it last year in the Christmas thread. For those who missed it, I still have it on my site here

I like this version of the 2006 Christmas add with the old Trucks music

I went to a Toby carvery on Friday. It had a Christmas tree up. A full two months and thirteen days before Christmas.

Christmas ads are one of those things that get me really riled up. I mean, it's a public holiday to mark a religious festival. Public holiday to mark a religious festival != great opportunity to fill up your pockets with gullible shoppers' banknotes two months before the actual event.

And it seems that DFS would have us buy a new sofa practically every week, and spend the rest of our time lounging about on it looking smug.

Thanks for that Smile Do you know if it was used in the US? I've just ripped the audio from it to make an mp3, and I can hear people talking at the beginning saying 'Is that Santa?' in an American accent.

Surely the actual, original Coca Cola trucks advert from 199whatever went long long ago? I'm really not sure that it was simply exactly the same advert every year up until two years ago, the truck coming down the hill and the music may have stayed the same but everything else was surely different. I know in 2000 they got rid of the music and then brought it back a year later, but I don't think it was the actual original advert.

The old 80s Toys R Us advert went at the beginning of the decade too, but now I'm not even sure if the music is still around. It's interesting really as there's actually nothing in that advert that suggests Christmas, no snow or sleighbells, but it seems to have been rooted in people's minds as a festive trademark. Then there's the Yellow Pages one which if it's seen again will be about its 15th year.

The first one I saw this year was Disneyland's on October 2nd, which is easily a new record I'd say.

With the Toys R Us theme, its more for the fact that its only used at Christmas. Though last year they dropped the music and opted for a lame piece of music with sleighbells.
I don't see why they can't bring back the music and Geoffrey for that matter, if the kid recognises the store from the giraffe's face, then surely you've got a good brand going.

As for Christmas ads in general. Last year wasn't so bad as people seemed to go for Christmas styled music, but not actual Christmas songs (take last years argos ad for example), but when I heard All I want for Christmas being used, I was ready to scream, it's one of those songs that gets me in the Christmas mood, but I don't want to be in a Christmas mood now, as I then doubt that I will in December.
I also won't be buying a sofa because of Christmas.

And as for argos using I wish it could be Christmas everyday, I actually don't wish that, its special, I love it in december, but not now, not yet.

I agree, its too early for that song. At this rate, by the time it gets to December I'll be bored sick of it let alone by Boxing Day. Last year didn't Argos just use Its All Been Done by the Barenaked Ladies right through Christmas?
