Hot on the heels of David Letterman announcing he's standing down from the Late Show "sometime next year" to be replaced by Stephen Colbert, Craig Ferguson last night announced he too will be leaving, albeit sooner in December this year. Which is a shame for those of us with crazy senses of humour who like interesting intelligent conversation.
Am actually pretty sad hearing this. I am a daily viewer of 'The Late Late Show'. It was one of a kind and despite being an American show, it has a distinctly British quirky sense of humour, not to mention the many British guests.
I'm honestly surprised it never got a showing in the UK, i think it would have been a bit of a cult hit here. Especially with its nerdy undertones.
Craigs show was made by David Letterman's production company so I'm not entirely surprised that it's ending too. Possibly it can't continue without the other, either contractually or because it'll be wound up.
Wow, that is a shock. Likewise I'm surprised this never got a slot on ITV4 when they used to broadcast Letterman as I do think it would have taken off over here...
What I've seen of Craig's show online was very good.

Craig states it was his own decision, and after 10 years he wanted to move on, and he even made fun of not waning David job. maybe its the fact he might be stuck on late night telly for 20 years..
That was the clip that hooked me all those years ago. I could clutter this thread with numerous YT vids of his finest moments but I've already posted them in the classic YT thread in Media Websites.

Did he mention the payoff clause in his contract that guaranteed him a small fortune if he was passed over for the Letterman slot he insists he didn't want?

No, but its in all the media reports, so he £10m richer

Not really - they'd just form a new production company to continue producing it with many of the same staff - in a way like Paul O'Grady did when he left ITV for C4.
CBS already took 50% control of Late Late show last year. When Letterman goes the World Wide Pants production deal goes with him meaning CBS will be able to take both shows fully in house.
