I think that's a terrible choice. However, i will give him a chance for two reasons.
1) Craig Ferguson is my favourite late night host, but when he started, he was far from an obvious choice. He was 'that guy' from the Drew Carey Show and from our point of view, a not very good drunk Scottish standup comedian.
2) If the production team is still the same, then he would have been chosen by the likes of Peter Lassally, who is a bit of a legend in that area and worked with the likes of Johnny Carson and he really does know what he's doing. So maybe like with Craig, he sees something that we don't.
I'm prepared to give him a go...

In an interview, he claimed one of the reasons he held on from leaving the show until December was for the crew to find time to find new gigs. I don't know if they're part of the production team though.

According to the official CBS press release, "The Late Late Show with James Corden" is to be produced by CBS. That would suggest that when Craig Ferguson leaves, Letterman's production company Worldwide Pants will no longer have anything to with it.
I wonder if Worldwide Pants is still going to produce The Late Show after Dave retires and Stephen Colbert takes over?
