True, but what of it? He put in an insurance clause in a contract which pertains to the insanely political macho pissing contest world of Late Night TV? How rude.....He may not have coveted the job but at the same time he didn't rule it out, it seems privately if not publicly. Seems fairly sensible to me. At least this stops him from being arbitrarily fired without a payoff post-Dave.

Hmm, I could go on but really it's irrelevant.
Going back to the show itself: for a few years it was brilliant but soon after it found it's groove and became a cult hit I felt the show developed a smug, self-indulgent, even sneering, sense of superiority. They might not have liked to have thought of their show as just another late night talk show....but ultimatly it was.

Hence the reason, I dare say he wanted out. CBS spent money on the show to bring it up to the same um well make it look like other late night shows. Craig, must also think its getting as you say sense of superiority. I don't think he ever wanted that, its cheap and cheerful all the way.
It Still different compeered to the other shows, and Craig still doesn't go out of his way to make fun and poke about some of the day celeb stuff.

When did Craig stop doing sketches? That's one thing which is lacking from the newer series.
Does anyone know who wrote the sketches?
In some of his newer episodes he can still give us some great interviews about nothing:
The sketches were pretty lame in themselves. That Murder She Wrote one is a prime example But it was Craig ad-libbing and cracking up which made them funny. I love his reaction in that clip when he sees the copy of 'Boy Toy' which was clearly planted there without him knowing Don't miss the sketches that much to be honest.
Which is a shame for those of us with crazy senses of humour who like interesting intelligent conversation.
Or those who can't admit to liking puerile humour and inane chat, lest it be seen as contrary to their supposed intelligence.
I'm not an avid viewer, but I do like what I've seen of it; I wouldn't pretend for a minute that it's intelligent. It's more of a contraflow to traditional US chat formats.
I want it to work out, but I can't see it working. It's such an odd choice.
It wont, because unlike Craig, ( who had been working in the USA for around 7 years and had a number of film roles and TV shows,) James has dont nothing.
