Stephen Mulhern wants to make a chatshow like James Corden's Late Late Show

Stephen Mulhern has revealed that he's currently in talks about hosting a new chat show similar in style to the The Late Late Show with James Corden.

The TV presenter, who returns to our TV screens with a new run of Catchphrase this Sunday (June 14), told Digital Spy that the UK has no such equivalent and he would love to create funny skits with celebrity guests.

Corden took over from iconic chat show host David Letterman and has been a huge success with audiences across the pond, partly due to his original comedy sketches with game A-listers.

"We're actually in talks about doing a new show - sort of similar to the James Corden show in the US, because ITV2 don't have anything like that," Mulhern explained.

"Because Britain's Got More Talent does so well, and we have such a laugh in it, the idea is to try do something like that over here.

"[I want to] have a good laugh, interact with celebrity guests, do something out of the studio and bring it back into the studio, play games, and have a good laugh. And most importantly, do it live.

"Then there's no going back, it's immediate and what's going to happen happens. When it's prerecorded sometimes celebs can go, 'I want that taken out'. But when it's live, you can't. So touch wood..."

The new Late Show marquee has now been installad at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

While Letterman's Late Show marquee became quite iconic in it's own right, the new marquee looks very impressive.

That's quite beautiful looking I have to say. It's hard to tell but is that an electronic display?

Also, wasn't there some discussion about renaming it the Letterman Theater? Or did i imagine that in my own head?

Incidentally, for the presentation fans, someone has uploaded a montage of all of Dave's title sequences from his first late night show to the last Late Show title sequence. The Ed Sullivan Theater features quite strongly.

Looks solid to me... they just haven't added stephen colbert (eugh) to the front bit yet. Perhaps that will be filmed as part of a skit or something.

Lit up at night, the new marquee looks great. Unlit during the day, it looks awful! Red lettering on a blue background ... yuck! I'd heard it was going to feature an electronic display of some sort on the front of the marquee, which could have had a lot of potential.

Thanks for posting. I didn't realise the theatre and set was so big. I don't think I've ever managed to catch the sweeping camera intro across the audience before.

The new marquee looks very Broadway, slightly streamlined compared to the old one but still great

A first look at the new Late Show With Stephen Colbert set at the Ed Sullivan Theater . . .

In this new incarnation of the Late Show, the desk and guest chairs appear to be on the left where Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra used to be situated throughout the Letterman era. The new resident house band is lead by jazz musician Jon Batiste.

This incarnation of the Late Show is already shaping up to be very different from from the Letterman era.

WTF is going on with that shatliffed pinboard background image?

Possibly some nods to his Colbert Report past with 'shelves and stuff' on that top tier/balcony on the left of the image?
