New set for CBC Montreal:

I really like this set, it's the sort of thing I'd like the ITV Regions to have, maybe when Granda move to Media City they will get a new design.

For those who didn't watch all the way through the video here is the male 'anchor' showing a bit more of the set.

And as Montreal is mainly French speaking, is there a French equivalent of this programme made by CBC?

Yes, the CBC (known as Société Radio-Canada in French) also has a French-language TV network with a local newscast for Montreal:

Why are France2 and France3 having separate programmes - I assumed they were the same company?

All very nice though - much more interesting than the US efforts we'll see in November I'm sure and a hark back to the time when British TV had a budget.

France 2 (formerly Antenne 2) and France 3 (formerly FR3) have always had separate news operations and identities, even though they are both publicly owned and have belonged to the same umbrella body (France Télévisions) since the 1990s.

Is comparing France 2 and France 3 news like comparing ITV and Channel 4 News, in that they cater for a different market?

They seem though to be sharing the logo and the on screen graphics, though France3 clearly has the smaller budget. It's kind of like S4C and the BBC more than C4 and ITV - so is it possible France3 is more regional focused?

Also interesting to see the number of broadcasters covering it compared to here where we'd have the BBC, ITV and Sky - plus S4C, BBC Nations and UTV/STV.

P.S. MODS - might it be worth making this a separate thread.

France 3 is a group of local/regional stations under the one umbrella of France 3, so a bit like ITV.

France 3 is regionally focused, but it's not really a network of regional companies. The old ITV system was a "bottom-up" operation in which individual regional broadcasters networked their programming. France 3, on the other hand, is a single entity (now a division of France Télévisions) which operates various regional stations -- very much a "top-down" setup (similar to today's ITV or even the BBC's regional services).

Most of France 3's programming is shown nationally (albeit often produced by the various regional stations) with just some regional and local opt-outs, mostly for news.

WNBC in New York has debuted a new set and graphics package from a new studio in 30 Rock.

This coincides with the 'letting go' of anchor woman Sue Simmons who along with Chuck Scarborough have been anchoring News 4 New York together since 1980! Her contract wasn't renewed and she leaves the station in June.

Will their Italian and Hungarian bulletins get a make over, too?
