Ugh and we're going to be stuck with that inevitably dreadful BBC Studios show.

Even in the unlikely event the BBC don't air this (live), the official ESC YouTube account will be streaming it live so you can watch it whatever happens.

It's called Europe, Shine A Light . Quite frankly if they don't take it, I'd be surprised.

Well they didn't take the 50th anniversary show called "Congratulations" did they?!

That's not the same, gottago.

This show will air in the same slot that the final should have aired in.

Nothing about our current situation is comparable to what they did a decade ago or indeed pretty much any period that we've ever lived through.

Eh? They've already announced BBC Studios produced show Eurovision Come Together is going to air on BBC1 on the night the Eurovision final was meant to air.

I'm just saying - we've never been in the situation where they've had to cancel the contest and schedule a slightly different show in its place so we cannot know how the BBC will react to it.

If they're airing this live and the BBC are prerecording a different programme, it seems to make sense that they'd air Europe, Shine A Light live along with the other countries and air its own programme at another point, perhaps even immediately before or after the live show. This would go some way to filling the massive gap left by the Grand Final being cancelled since this new live programme is only planned to be two hours in length.

I was clearly pointing out that just because the name of the show features a UK song in the title doesn't necessarily mean they'd take it.

I'd argue that they jumped the gun and commissioned their own show too early, the EBU clearly said in their cancellation press releases than they were planning on doing something.

I'd be surprised if they ended up featuring two long shows dedicated to the same contest. At best I reckon they'll air Come Together on the 16th and maybe air the EBU one the night after on BBC4.

The grand final of the contest normally lasts three and a half / four hours so I don't see the difference between airing one long programme and two shorter programmes back-to-back.

Also, I couldn't disagree with your above assumption more and think they'd be mental to air something they could air at any time in the place of a live show numerous other countries will be watching simultaneously.

Ultimately, neither of us have any idea so let's just wait and see what the BBC decide.

RAI today ran a 4 hour and 14 minute long programme (that's also internationally live via their youtube) called Musica Che Unisce that features a number of previous Italian Eurovision Artists.

Most of it is in Italian but I watched the first few hours and it was nice enough. A few English covers here and there but mostly all italian.

The BBC didn't announce a time for that Graham Norton show so I imagine they could use up the BBC 4 semi final slots for it or just stick it somewhere in the BBC 1/2 schedule somehow.

Seems SVT are to hold a National Vote for their 'winner' in a Melfest produced series of three programmes. The Melfest App is to be used to get a 'result'.

.... and how lovely is Daði Freyr on Twitter, wonderful bloke in the circumstances.

Just realised that the recent uploads to YouTube for the #EurovisionAgain series of watchparties are totally new ones at 1080p replacing the old 720p recorded as live versions that were established to replace their own in house streaming platform. Tonight's Moscow 2009 show is looking superb so far.
