Neighbours actress Vivean Gray dies

There were a lot of rumours circulating yesterday, but it looks like the news might be true now.

Nine Network in Australia is reporting that British actress Vivean Gray, who played Nell Mangel in Neighbours, has died.

A great Shame as she was a great actress. I remember her in both The Sullivans and in Neighbours. I am pleased she lived to a great age.

Quite ironic Vivean played two gossips in The Sullivans and in Neighbours. Sadly fans thought the actress was the character and she suffered abuse in real life which is why she left Neighbours. She also had bad luck when she appeared in Prisoner as Edna Pearson as a real life lady accused the producers of copying real life events. Her scenes were therefore cut and she was written out of the Programme.

Have any UK Programmes or Radio Stations mentioned this at all?

I heard it on the BBC news earlier, why?

I saw a tribute on This Morning.

I asked because it is something that should be on the news but sometimes they don't always report these things.

Neighbours actress Vivean Gray, who played Mrs Mangel, has died. Her funeral will be held today at 1.30pm, with a repeat at 5.30pm.

Why is it news worthy? Long forgotten, minor Australian soap actress dies of old age? Sad news but hardly 'news worthy', especially in these challenging times we live.

She was British and returned to Britain over twenty years ago.

The truth of the matter is, the sort of people making the decisions of what's newsworthy today were teenagers in Neighbours' heyday, and Mrs Mangel was an iconic figure during that time (I was only a 5 year old - she terrified me!)

...and until today - largely forgotten by all but the obsessive Ramsay Street fans.

Even so, the fact she came back to the UK is still not a reason to use up 15 seconds on the news to inform.

You've conducted some sort of poll I assume? Or just a sweeping statement to back up your viewpoint?

I wasn't an obsessive Ramsay Street fan by any means, but the news of Ms Gray's death is still significant for the over 30s. I wouldn't expect Radio 1 Newsbeat to report on her death though.
