i>TELE's strike has been extended until 1030 CET on Tuesday. Today was supposed to be the relaunch as CNEWS, however for obvious reasons, the old brand is still in use today with the same loop of docs.

I have a question, once the strike does indeed end, will the owners speed up the rebrand to CNews or will they drop it entirely for a period of time?

Nobody knows. Canal+ could have relauched the channel today with the new branding with the same loop of docs, but decided not to. Clearly the situation with the new presenter needs resolving before they can even consider a rebrand.

The other issue is that the person in charge of the company placed the presenter in by stealth as he's a friend of his. The staff are concerned of editorial interference from Canal+ of which this presenter who has criminal charges against him is only the start of changes of more than just a new name and fancy graphics.

From Austria, a historical compilation of ORF's regional news intros from the 1980s to the present:

To be fair it could be just bends/folds in the fabric.

Recently, Romanian public broadcaster TVR finally replaced Telejurnal's ugly look with something more presentable. Though it still looks like templates.

The new, current one:

The previous one (it didn't last long, fortunately !)

I think CTV News in Windsor, Ontario, Canada is the only news studio with a live window overlooking another country! Those towers in the background are the Detroit skyline across the river in Michigan!

Nightwatch, CBS's overnight news & features, 1991:

In 1992, Nightwatch was replaced by Up to the Minute, a more conventional newscast. Here's a clip from 1993:

And now Up To The Minute has become the CBS Overnight News, from the CBSN studio. The CBS Morning News also comes from that same studio.

A video of news opens from ORF in Austria, including the local bulletins, which have some very interesting themes!

And another interesting fact: current CBS This Morning anchor Charlie Rose was one of the first presenters of CBS News Nightwatch. Here's a clip from New Year's Day 1984:

Also note he introduces himself as "Charles Rose." It's amazing that he pretty much looks and sounds the same as he does today.

Great clip, but my favorite overnight newscast of all time is still NBC News Overnight from the early 1980s -- it was intelligently written, surprisingly literate, and it featured video essays and reports from various foreign broadcasters (not just the BBC, which you might expect, but also subtitled reports from the likes of NHK and ARD).

Here's a typical clip:
