From February 1st at 5pm Speed Auction TV will be getting big changes. There will be a new studio design (at the moment they are in set 'construction' mode with signs everywhere), new features and much more publicity of the channel on the other two sister stations. Already there has been a new website launched which is separate from the Bid and Price Drop layout and the new Speed Auction LIVE will have a new logo featuring a gavel. Nice to see that the channel is getting a bit more funding to promote itself and fix the flaws.

I know some people may be interested in the information above! Laughing

Given the studio is still exactly the same, I'm not sure the revamp will be that big to be honest. Unless they have a new set ready to wheel in overnight, then they'll be limited in what they can do between 2am and 5pm.

To be fair the Bid set took around 3 days to install and it is pretty big. The Speed Auction studio is tiny so it may still get a new makeover. The again it may just be a lick of paint or some new filters over the light boxes. Laughing

Glad they're changing the studio. You can still see the 2006 set behind those blue light boxes!

Are rising price auctions returning?

You might be right actually - it looks like it's pre-recorded at the moment.

The presenter isn't referring to the actual price, and keeps saying "if there's quantity on screen, you can buy. If the phone number is on screen, you can buy." And the graphics aren't showing at the moment, but he's still babbling on about some cake stand, and he keeps referring to the graphics on screen - which aren't there.

It is defiantly a pre-record at the moment....and the graphics have failed! Laughing

The auctions themselves still seem to be working though. You can see the details on their website. The towels on now started at £40 and dropped to £19.99. They haven't sold any though, there are still 25 left.

I wonder how it works. Are the auctions pre-recorded too or is there someone or something dropping the price based on the number of buyers in each auction?

I used to enjoy watching Bid-up and price-drop in the 'golden age' as I've seen some refer to it - it felt a little anarchic back then and as if it genuinely was down to the buyers how much an item went for to an extent but it just seems so obviously controlled nowadays - the prices fall don't continuously fall and the auctions are nearly always closed before the item sells out. Are there really people out there who still believe the 'saving' they see is a genuine saving?

The "Jewellery Avalanches" seems to be one feature where there seems to be genuine savings. They make the majority of their money on them through vastly overpriced watches.

The gavel will be back tonight on Speed Auction when the new format launches at 5pm.

The music they use when the auction closes is very familiar. It's been used on a programme recently but I can't for the life of me think of what it is.

I'd say it's an audio network piece but it doesn't sound like it's from that library.
