5.00-6.00am Alan Partridge graveyard slot is pan-regional as well isn't it?

Networked from Hull for some bizarre reason, I'd have thought Leeds would have been a more appropriate place as it has a news room with pan-regional interests as it's putting Look North together

And the Alex Hall Late Show (10pm-1am) is done from York, except occasionally including this week when she's doing it from Leeds. I'm not particularly sure why she does it from York as she lives in Leeds!

In the South of England, it's the same set up but without the Night Shift. Sue Dougan (once Dominic Busby, and should still be) followed by Paul Miller (once Bill Rennells, and still should be). Then at 01.00 it's Five Live.

Except for Southern Counties Radio which doesn't join 5 Live, but for some obscure reason has its own Through the Night programme from 1-6am. Not sure if it actually has any listeners at all, I'm sure the money would have been better spent providing more split programming between Surrey and Sussex.

Aaaahhh... I didn't know that. It could be a pilot run - the Night Shift for the East was a pilot up until June, but its obviously justified itself and become a permanent fixture. And very good it is too. Perhaps SCR are giving it a go?

It's been running since about July 2002 (started before the BBC East Night Shift), so if it's a pilot run it's a jolly long one! Smile It mostly consists of repeats of some of the daytime features, interspersed with music, and is on weekdays only.

How many Radio stations used to broadcast the Andy Pebles Late Show? I know it was on all NE&C Stations but I seem to remember them saying it was from Manchester. Pity they dropped that show.

I'm sure it costs very little, if anything. I used to produce something similar for the Managing Editor of SCR when I worked for him.

Presumably with the technology now present in all the local stations everything can be prepared during the day and then left to run themselves overnight

Yep that's how we did it in Bristol - and that was with the technology of eight years ago Smile

The evening show from Bristol is STILL run live, and the previous incumbant of said slot also did show live.

The 10-1 show is and has always been live.

When exactly are you talking about?

Hmm, Radioman can be left to do its own thing fairly reliably (well I've never had it die). I wouldn't trust it to play out a full regional programme totally unattended though.

1995. We used Digispot to run a pilot service between midnight and 5am (i.e. between Late Night West and Good Morning).

Err ok... For what its worth, here's how things work from Manchester.

Mon - Fri from 10 till 1 is the Nick Robins Lateshow (Nick Replaced Andy Peebles: who now covers cricket for GMR) the lateshow goes out all over northern england so thats up through radio Lancashire and through Merseyside too, it may go elsewhere as well but those are the ones I know for sure.

From 10 o'clock, the broadcasts at manchester, from the GMR studio's drop the GMR idents and just go to local radio idents. on some occaisions where sport is also being covered for the GMR audience, GMR runs with the sport (usually from S2 and/or S3) and only after thats finished, opts-in to its OWN BROADCAST which has been running since 10 to those other counties (from S1). Its very strange in ops to see Nick though the glass yet hear Euro footie from Old trafford, going out to the GMR region.

My guess (and thats what it is at best) is that this is mirrored in some other counties meaning that the actual amount of unique broadcasts is cut after 10 o'clock. In GMR's case, the staff finish at 1am and then start again at 5am during the week although this may not be the case in every county.

Hope that helps

WM also had that affliction too, until they had their own late show !

ISTR that even though WM broadcast the regional show & also broadcast its own sports coverage at the same time, I'm sure on at least one occasion WM only managed to lose transmission of the Late Show for a time due to tech probs, even though they were transmitting the show themselves !

How did they do that, because Waddo used to mention when they used to receive calls, while the caller was waiting to go on air, they used to mention that they got a football commentary, before they were put on air !

(For the record, WM swopped to 'Midlands BBC' jingles from 7.05pm Mon to Fri. It has continued to this day, with WM playing their own jingles for the news, while the other West Mids stations play a shortened WM jingle without branding, with the fairly regular late opt from the East Mids output!
Those of you who listen to Alex Trelinski on Stoke, Shropshire & Hereford & Worcester only, will know what I mean ! )
