Polly Whitehouse did the 7.55pm update.

But it does feel a bit like a gameshow now - the music, the laptop stand bit, the studio, and how there is a large "5" in the logo.

The red, blue and white colour scheme makes it feel a bit Sky Newsy too...

The laptop stand, if I'm not mistaken, is also used in the new Westminster studios of Sky News - I'm sure I've seen Sarah Hughes use it a couple of times from the newsroom there. I agree that the blue lighting is quite Sky News styled, but the red isn't very Sky News IMO.

I think they have shared the colour scheme, Blue from Sky News Red from Desmonds OKTV!

I don't think it's the same one. If you look at this image the Sky one is very much in the Sky style.

Same Sky idea, you can see who had what say if the set is broken down.

Did Matt front the lunchtime update again today? I think that’s wise thinking by five if Matt’s not doing the 7pm then it makes sense for him to do the early bulletin.

As for Emma a mixed start in my opinion. However Matt was excellent as always. In terms of Content I watched both bulletins and thought the reports were of a much higher standard and was glad it was not just reports shared with sky but five having its own individual content again. The studio is different but I think a lot better than the previous one. When the 2008 set launched I like it but it got ruined once LFSF come in and the 7 had to come from a CSO.

It's not exactly the same, but the concept of having a small stand just for a laptop is more than likely to have been taken from the Sky News idea and used again by Sky when they planned the new 5 News studio.

Philippa Hall did the lunchtime bulletin today as per usual.

Emma doing a much better job tonight with the lighter topics. She definitely seems more at ease than she did on GMTV. They could do with putting a bar stool in or something for the host to sit on, the wider shots where you can see their legs make them look uncomfortable (which they probably are!).

It was an improvement of sorts, although a quirky comment after the light piece from Ruth Liptrot would've been good.

It helps for Emma at least that it's a structured news bulletin, but still needs work on the style of delivery.

That will most likely come in time. Emma presented on Sky for years before trying a different style GMTV for a year and a bit, then going back to her original style of presentation on BBC News and NBC (I think). That type of delivery is probably second nature to her and she'll get better on 5 News at it as she settles in. But on day 2 at 5 News, she is infinitely better at lighter stories than she was on GMTV after almost 2 years!
