Five News from ITN

Next Sunday (7th Feb) at 20:25 is "5 News in Film". Is presume this is a film news programme, but is this new?

Sounds like a description of a news bulletin interrupting a film screening!

Of course! It is scheduled in between 2 parts of Zoolander - so you'll be right.

Why '5 News' doesn't suffice I'll never know. However it is a step up from '5 News at in Weekend Film' in previous years.

They aren't very conistent with namings are they? 5 News at Lunchtime, 5 News Tonight, 5 News Update, 5 News at 20:58. Hopefully with the new look C5 they sort this out!

Do we have any news as to whether 5 News will be moving out of the N&S Building at any point? I'm sure I've heard talk of it moving back to ITN on Gray's Inn Road, however I believe ITV moved into what was formerly 5 News' studio in 2013, leaving the former ITV studio, home of the 'car park' the only free studio at GIR. This would give them some decent space to work with.

Coincidentally, Seven News Sydney got a new set the other day, and with not a massive amount of space, they have achieved something much more impressive than anything we've seen on 5 in years, and I feel something similar would be something perfectly achievable by 5 at GIR.

I hope we see something like this, if and when 5 News move. Although with an impending 5 rebrand likely next week, I'd have thought to have heard more by now if it was on the cards at any point in the future, as this sounds like an opportune moment.

The bigger problem at GIR is office space - it's pretty jam-packed at the moment!

I have heard of a few different scenarios as to where 5 News could go within GIR. Obviously there is the other basement studio that could be used in conjunction with PCR2, however, ITN does use this studio for other corporate contracts. Other possibilities might be a return to an atrium-side studio - but other departments would have to move in this case. I've also heard that it might be built a new setup in the basement of the adjoining building. Most people probably do not know that there is a link corridor in the basement that connects 200 GIR to 222 GIR. ITN occupies some of the lower floors of this building, which might be a possible location for 5 News. I don't think anything's been decided yet though - I've certainly heard nothing concrete.

Where was 5 News in the building in 1997? I'd really love them to return to their routes and really embed themselves within a newsroom again.

When 5 News launched in 1997, ITN created a newsroom, studio and control room alongside the atrium on the ground floor. This was known as Studio 5 / PCR5. Looking at the building from the street outside, 5 News was along the front of the building on the ground floor, just to the right of the entrance:

I wish ITV would return to a studio with the atrium view. Would look pretty neat with their current style side panels and rostrum.
