Like there is actually anything else anybody could do in response...
DON'T BE SO BLOODY STUPID!
Calm down Ian. Michael Moore did quite a lot in response to Columbine. He made an Oscar-winning film about it.
And on the wrong side people like Glenn Beck do an enormous amount of harm to the US despite being ostracised from network and cable news and basically spouting crap from his garage to the internet. See also Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, Ann Coulter and all the rest of the rightwing nutjobs America seems to present on a daily basis as being the voices of the people. Maybe if the news organisations actually WERE the voice of the vast majority of the people of America who are actually sane and represented the views of the 55% who are dissatisfied with current US gun laws then something would get done. But no. It's easier to post a selfie with some bits of paper printed out in Calibri. That way you can pat yourself on the back and pretend the problem has gone away.
It's easier to post a picture of yourself with a hashtag on Twitter now than it is to actually do anything.
Changing a few 0s to 1s on a website isn't really going to stop Joseph Kony, or ISIS, or bring back the Nigerian kidnapped girls, or support a French satirical magazine, or indeed control guns in the US.
But you get your face on TV and get a few thousand retweets, so that's OK.
