Plus some behind the scenes shots at the Broadcast Centre (October 2012)

Thought it may be worth noting that on today's Points Of View, they were talking about +1 channels and why the BBC don't offer them.

They also showed the Red Bee Media Broadcast Centre and some Behind The Scenes shots. Smile

They basically explained that whilst there would be capacity available on satellite, there wouldn't be enough to broadcast them on Freeview in all areas. I think they probably should have mentioned more about the Live Restart, he didn't really explain it well.

At a time when the BBC is slashing red button services to save money, it's quite astonishing that they even uttered the notion of +1 channels.

BBC IPlayer is the most widely available catch-up service, and it really dispenses with the need for any +1 channels.

Being picky, it was actually inside the Energy Centre, which adjacent (but attached) to the Broadcast Centre.

Except for those who pay for only television and their phone line and haven't joined us in the 21st century...

Points of View is regularly recorded in one of the playout galleries. For a while they used Playout 1 (aka BBC UK channels), but they seem to have been relocated to the interactive galleries.

How expensive can a +1 be? A slot on the EPG, but zero extra production costs and the running costs can't be that high, can they?

One of the points mentioned on PoV is that there's currently something like 18 versions (can't remember the exact number) of BBC1, so they are currently focusing all their budget and energy into those rather than looking to make a BBC1 + 1, which would have cost associated with it.

Let's not forget, the main reason +1 channels exist is as a cheap and easy way of increasing revenues for commercial channels. The BBC don't have that consideration...

And then certain types will complain that they get London News on +1. Smile

That would include Virgin Media customers with TV Catchup?

Anybody who hasn't joined us here in the 21st century would surely be quite happy with the 5 channels they had at the end of the 20th?
