With "A Question of Sport" being recorded in both London and Manchester, would I be correct in assuming they have two
identical sets, one at either studio. It'd surely cost a small fortune to transport the set between London and Manchester.

Studio 2 (now the pres suite)at YTV used to the home of Calendar.

Blockbusters is currently being filmed, according to the web, at Leeds by Pearson for Sky!

Sounds like an old piece of information, Pearson TV ceased to be many years ago

I notice that the Live Final of Stars In Their Eyes on 18th March is at BBC TV Centre, as is a Celebrity Special they are recording.

Is this a first I always thought Stars In Their Eyes home was at Granada Manchester.

In other studio news, with the London Studios already 'booked up' where is Paul O'Grady going to find a home ?

This seems so odd to me. Granada Manchester using BBC Television Centre for Stars.

I think it's to do with some asbestos work going on at Quay Street - they've found some unusually high levels in a couple of the studio roofs I gather. Several productions have been moved to Leeds and London. As for transporting sets around, it's quite common for sets to be transported up and down the country and has been the case for years. Specialist hauliage firms (often also doing stage scenery shifting) are usually hired to move sets around.

Will this affect Corrie ?

Slightly off topic but still on about television studios:
Why are some studios at the BBC titled with an N (eg. N6, NCool but others are titled with a TC (eg. TC7) and is there a N7 or is TC7 N7?

The "N" ones as has been said refers to the "News Stage" where all the BBC News's stuff is hidden away, along with Five Live I belive? And TC well im sure you can guess thats "Television Center"

Worth going on a TVC tour if your interested.

edit: There's also quite a good bit on transdiffusion: http://www.transdiffusion.org/emc/studioone/tvcentres.php

A site that is well worth reading is Martin Kempton's History of London's TV Studios: http://www.martinkempton.com/studio%20history.htm
He has a seperate page on TV Centre: http://www.martinkempton.com/TV%20Centre%20history.htm

The BBC has always been (and still is) obsessed by acronyms and codes for it studios and equipment. All its studios were known by a code so that anyone working in the BBC knew that it was Manchester Studio A, not Birmingham Studio A, TC1 not Telecine 1 and so on. These codes are still used widely in the BBC mainly for identifying circuits between studio centres (as sadly most network studios outside London have closed.)

in reply to westy2's question about the granada building work affecting coronation street i doubt it. the coronation street studios are separate buildings, stage 1 is behind the viaduct and was opened in 1990 and stage 2 is at the other end of the street set, off victoria street and was opened in 2004, this is on the site of the baker street set.

the only problem would be dust and noise affecting any outside scenes recorded on the street set.

anybody got any ideas what is being built on the granada site
