A Question of Studio Use

I was reading Ally McCoist's column in the "Daily Record" last Friday and he stated that "today is the day I'm in London recording A Question of Sport". I always understood that this was recorded at Granada in Manchester under the agreement made between the beeb and Granada when the studio at Oxford Road was closed. Is that no longer the case?
On a separate but related matter, I can't remember the last time I saw a studio production from the YTV studios in Leeds. I know Emmerdale (Farm, I refuse to call it anything else!) has its own production centre; and Calender comes from next door. What if anything is the YTV building used for now? I know Northern presentation comes from there, and the archives for the ITV group are now based there too, but they can't take up that much room surely?

You're forgetting Countdown, that permanently occupies a studio I believe, also My Parents Are Aliens is made there. I don't know of anything else off the top of my head.

It's been in London for many years now, possibly since the studios at Oxford Road closed

The archives for ITV would take up a heck of a lot of space, it includes the feature films formally owned by Carlton as well as 50 years of ITV programmes.

Mind you, I'm not sure if they're all in he same place, 'Granada' (i.e. ITV) library sales are handled by ITN

Well Heartbeat and The Royal are made at the mill in Farsley, but Frost comes from YTV Centre. Also the studios are used a lot by independents and Granada Kids stuff is also made at Kirkstall Road. A few science programmes are also made in studio 4.

My spy at Calendar South tells me that Granada Media is spending a lot of money at Kirkstall Road. No doubt wrapped up with the development in Manchester. Don't forget that it is now called the Leeds Studios.

I wonder if that is why the weather department seemed to have moved

When there was that programme on Granada about a day in the life of Jo Blythe, they were based in the main building with a seperate weather studio.

Now the weather office is in the Calendar newsroom and the weather is done on a blue screen in the Soccer Night set

As I understand it, A Question Of Sport is filmed in Manchester and London. At least, this is what the ticket section of their website says.

If you're in Leeds, you can actually walk around the perimiter of both parts of the YTV Centre.

This can be very productive. For example in 1998 (I know it's a long time ago!) I was in Leeds on business, and had a walk up Kirkstall Road in my dinner. On the 'back-lot' (car-park) the cast and crew of Heartbeat were filming. Lots of fake snow and backgrounds - funny as it was the middle of June! You can also peer into the building and sometimes catch the odd snipit. The staff on reception are very good as well.

Oh just an aside, by viewing the start up sheet of the Leeds Studios website, it also says wire in the blood and Bodies(?) is made in Leeds.

I also know that Kay Mellor's new programme for the BBC is being made at Kirkstall Road.
