Wales' efforts. I like how to uploader recorded it with a VHS for a real nostalgic feel! Smile

I must say 'in context' that Blade slide doesn't look too bad. The worst (of the 'olde style' ones) is actually that rotation one. Still, thought was a good one.

Agree; network at least have the appropriate Futura for the 90s slide, and all of the main time / programme text looks just fine. The text & graphics at the bottom, bit of a different story.

No idea what the font on the cylinder-themed menu is supposed to be based on, but what they've used looks like a DIN type, which I don't think was the typical choice at the time. Ironically the network TWO era menu appears to (rightly) use Univers, but in a condensed weight that could have been a more appropriate choice for the 70s menus... So it's in front of them and they're actually using it - just, not quite in the right places... There's only one other typeface besides Univers that springs to mind for a 70s menu just now.

Not sure if you've spotted the 1973 Colour menu that's also been airing on network, but the font choice there looks quite off as well. I think the 2 logo wasn't even front-facing on the menu when I saw it - possibly because, as with the cylinder version, they seem to have taken stills from the reconstructed idents and downsized them, instead of a plain logo?

It feels so much more authentic with a VHS effect.

Thanks for adding the menu Andrew - yep, I wasn't imagining that odd angle for the logo (saw it a couple of days ago at 6am when my vision wasn't quite adjusted!). It does look a bit iffy...

More authentic if it is at least a 3rd or 4th generation copy of a VHS! Really you need a N1500 to give the pres that classic Philips sheen.

Watching the episode "Diamonds are a Man's Best Friend" of Are you Being Served? which was shown on BBC Two a couple of Fridays ago (I am a little behind), there seemed to be a number of scenes missing from the subtitles. I wonder if the subtitles were typed from an edited version of the episode. Previous episodes have been subtitled by BBC Scotland which must date the subtitles to at least 15 years ago.

The scenes in question weren't controversial as far as I could see. One scene did involve a lady who it turns out used to be a gentleman but that was just incidental. Another scene missing from the subtitles just involved Captain Peacock and Mr Rumbold talking about the pay packets. The end result is that the subtitles were out of sync for much of the episode as there was no gap left in the subtitles for the missing scenes. Someone must have noticed at about 20 minuets in as the subtitles changed to the live style subtitles.

^Yeah, perhaps they were cut for time to allow for commercial breaks.
