Seeing as a lot of us have interest in how news is broadcasted and such, is there any students here who want to or are training to be journalists, or who are journalists? I would love to be a broadcast journalist.

When I leave school I intend to take A-Levels and hopefully go to uni. A BBC Cameraman , "the BBC is the organisation I should work for, it is the best," I hope to follow his advice in the years to come. Razz

I hope BBC are on tour this year...

I'm training to be a broadcast journalist at Nottingham Trent University. Going really well so far, so if that's the sort of career you want you persue then go for it.

I am a Broadcast Journalist. Don't do it. Get a well paid job that relies on little work.

Who Wants to be a Journalist?

Sounds like a TV show. Surprised actually there hasn't been an Apprentice style "Newsreader Idol" format somewhere - though I vaguely recall a feature on something years ago in which someone became a newsreader.

It was on ITV1 Wales wasnt it or was that to become a tv presenter rather than newsreader?

'Who wants be be a journalist?' *raises hand* I would love to do it, but I know there are people far more intelligent than myself and luckier who would probably get a job like that above me. I don't think it's anything to do with qualifications, talents or anything like that, you just need contacts or insiders. . . of which I have none!

So yeah, I'd love to do it, but it's a bit wish, I'd be happy if I ended up writing for a national paper. That would do me fine, broadcasting is the crazy super-dream I have.

But anyway, I need to get into a decent Uni and get my degree first!

There was a weatherman idol on this morning a couple of years ago, Robin Lermitte won it.

Not what I'm thinking off. It was with the BBC - I think I'm thinking of Gaby Roslins "Whatever you Want" - I know Michael Underwood won a role on CBBC, but I've got a vague (probably completly wrong!) recollection of something similar being done for BBC News.

ITV Wales (HTV at the time!) also had a series around 2001/2 where people turned up to audition (X Factor style) to be a presenter.

I'd like to be a journalist, I just have a big inquisitive mind and I'm also a bit of a nosey b*gger who likes to know the full picture. Currently I am about to finish A-Levels hopefully then I'll go to uni and do a BA in Journalism. Getting my statement put together to show prospective universities and employers which include my online news broadcasts, the BBC World Service, BBC Blogging and various writings in local newspapers.... hopefully I'll get in somehow!

BBC Talent did it when it first launched I think, that's how Darren Jordan got his job.
