Seeing as a lot of us have interest in how news is broadcasted and such, is there any students here who want to or are training to be journalists, or who are journalists?

I'm sorry, but much as the management here want us to get off the backs of those who have poor spelling and grammar, those qualities really ARE the most important if your going to be a serious journo.

Please go away and come back when you've learnt the basics, then you can think about starting journalism.

Failing that, I suppose you could apply for a job with everybody's (especially Mr Harvey’s ... I can tell) favourite newspaper.....

Nick, I appreciate your time in correcting me however I am 15 years old, and I think I'm doing OK for 15. I still have a long way to go in terms of education, but I want to stick with my ambitions of life.

I do need to go to lessons where you learn to pronounce your words correctly though, in the town of Bolton we tend to be a little lazy, well, the majority of the people I know.

Who Wants to be a Journalist?

Sounds like a TV show. Surprised actually there hasn't been an Apprentice style "Newsreader Idol" format somewhere - though I vaguely recall a feature on something years ago in which someone became a newsreader.

It was on ITV1 Wales wasnt it or was that to become a tv presenter rather than newsreader?

Not what I'm thinking off. It was with the BBC - I think I'm thinking of Gaby Roslins "Whatever you Want" - I know Michael Underwood won a role on CBBC, but I've got a vague (probably completly wrong!) recollection of something similar being done for BBC News.

BBC Talent did it when it first launched I think, that's how Darren Jordan got his job.

Thankyou - I was thinking it was Darren Jordan, but looking at some online profiles there was no mention of it.

Following his advice will depend on whether you want to get paid a decent wage or not... Wink

Including using caps for emphasis? I thought you are only meant to write words in capitals when abbreviating (ITV, BBC and so on) in the main body of the text or copy; bold type is for emphasis I would have thought.
