Reporting Scotland

dragonhhjh posted:
Also, I seem to remember watching Reporting Scotland on the day they reported on the new water-plane thing on the Clyde. A big give away to normal viewers that their background is recorded, surely?

Another giveaway is that the Science Centre and BBC building have been rotated by 90 degrees for the background.

ITV wants to axe some regional news services

Who's the loser?

The viewer, who would see less local stories under stv where they would be competing against stories from the urban Central Belt, and also stv's dwindling resources. Border isn't the most ideal television company ever, but it does try to bring stories from each area across the region on any given night.

Although I do concede that a programme from Gateshead would be worse.

I wonder if the look of the News will fit into the new BBC News branding?

Given that the BBC Arabic TV service is not being made by BBC News (unlike BBC World) then I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't close to the BBC News brand - though I would expect it to be within the wider BBC brand.

Hmm, so it will be like BBC Three's 60seconds, made with BBC News Resources, but avoiding the brand image!

Did you not read the post you quoted? It's not being made by BBC News, so is not made with BBC News resources, and therefore is not like 60 Seconds on BBC Three.

Sky News

well five hasn't got one of its own, and so the fact it's news provider has a 24hr channel, why not promote their channel, and have one up on Channel 4 and itv which has no 24hour options...

And how often did Channel 4 News namecheck the ITN News Channel, or later, ITV News Channel... oh wait, they never did. Surprising that. Rolling Eyes

That is true, might raise the talk for EE going 5 nights

The BBC ruled out Eastenders going 5 nights a week because of budget cuts.

BBC News - General

You'll never find me moaning about regions being the same. I'd abolish local news if it was up to me and just have everything coming from London.

Luckily... 1) You're not in charge of the BBC, and 2) your views counter the vast majority of research done which tends to suggest higher appreciation / demand for local news rather than national news.

BBC News - General

Moz posted:

Excuse me but I think Scotland should do as they're bloody well told by Network.

Everyone on here moans at all nations and regions on the BBC and ITV being the same, but when one does do something different, you still moan. The cost of doing this as a one off is negligible - all the crew are in anyway. Also BBC 1 Scotland has taken a bulletin from News 24 before.

The reason of course for tonights difference is the fact that it's New Year's Eve in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and in Scotland it's Hogmanay. These are cultural differences with different programmes to reflect that. On this occasion the timings of the pre-recorded programmes during the evening must just not match up or something, which must be why there is a separate bulletin.

And that's probably one of the most sensible names for it, as there's no snappy way of naming that area.

Northern England, Southern Scotland, and Isle of Man Tonight , anyone? Laughing

I think they'll chose something like ITV North News, The North At Six or The North Tonight. North East Tonight and Lookaround doesn't seem appropriate for the new region.

But the point is that it's not the North. It's the North of England plus the South of Scotland plus the Isle of Man. North doesn't represent the area.

So they could call it Lookaround then.

So do the BBC still junk tapes even now?

davidlees posted:

Now imagine in 5,10 or 20 years time a former contestant on Egg Heads is convicted of murder (falsely or otherwise). Don't forget, statistically this is VERY likely to happen.

Now, do remind me, where can I find the statistics for Eggheads contestants who later become murderers?Laughing And if someone has been on Eggheads are they more or less likely to be a murderer than someone who has for example been on Countdown?

And anyway the footage is unlikely to be used before a verdict had been passed, and unless the murder was directly related to a quiz, or the murderer has answered a question along the lines of "Have you killed anyone?" on the show, the loss of the footage is unlikely to make any backgrounder on the case any less interesting.

Wales Today - rights issues?

Netizen posted:
StuartPlymouth posted:
I appreciate that BBC News are trying to make efficiencies by improving the synergy between all platforms, but surely someone should have edited the on-line stream to explain the "sports rights" issue rather than leaving some people (such as the OP) with the idea that there was a problem with their connection?

My connection is just fine, thank you! Wink But that's a very good point, given the shocking quality someone could easily think there's a problem with their PC too. I suppose it's better than nothing but I'd go so far as to say it's pointless. If it were 1999 and I was using a 56k modem, I'd be impressed.

Would it be too much work to simply edit out the sports section? Is any broadcaster actually losing out if people not in Wales get to see very short clips of Welsh sporting events? I'm not all that fussed about Wales Today, it's just the seemingly pointless restrictions being imposed.

The vast majority of the streams on the BBC website are automated so the options are limited to having it available or not available.
