I don't like the way the BBC 1 website is set out. The images are also poor quality like this:

A bit messy.

no the BBC1 website is horrific. tbh, all the channel sites are. but at least they're trying with the bbc2 one at the moment.
anyways I presume you're referring to this homepage here
http://www.hymagumba.com/uploads/bbc-home-1203.jpg
It's lovely, and a progression from this
http://www.currybet.net/images/articles/dalek/04.jpg
which was their last, somewhat unsuccesful to change the ugly normal homepage.
Once again there is a feedback page
http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback/planetearthspecial_comment.shtml
I'm saying two thumbs fresh.

oh, I notice they didn't use this last week.

I also notice this design has not appeared in the homearchive list. how odd.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4828336.stm has a video clip with the head of New Media and Bill Gates talking about what they've been up to. The demo on there of what I assume will be myBBCPlayer and Vista just looks stunning.

They are so copying Apple's software there with the reflection on the BBC logo. The whole thing looks really like OS X!

Going off-topic slightly, why don't BBC use their bbc.com domain for more than a redirect? Surely it would be put to better use than bbc.co.uk?
BB
Because .com is "traditionally" associated with the US, and also probably because the BBC are British and wishes to be proud of its heritage and so incorporate this into their online identity by using a co.uk rather than a .com.
