BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Who was presenting with Rajesh Mirchandani today in the 11:00-14:00 slot? I think he's been pretty good this week.

Channel 4 News

Cathy Newman is reporting on Twitter that this evening's edition of Channel 4 News is the first ever in its history to be presented by two women! (The weekday main editions, that is).

I seem to recall Zeinab Badawi and Carol Barnes presenting together a gazillion years ago?

In the 1990s, it was quite common for Channel 4 News to be anchored by either Zeinab Badawi, Sheena McDonald or Tanya Sillem, with Cathy Smith, Jane Bennett-Powell, Daljit Dhaliwal or Judy Aslett reading the Headlines/Summary. It's certainly not a first, but as you say, just something that hasn't happened in ages!

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

I think Kate should be given back the morning shift until Carrie returns, I don't think it would be fair to take the shift away from Carrie. Also there could be the possibility of Carrie only wanting to do a couple of days a week when she returns in which case Kate could present the other days.

What about Rachel, though? The BBC have always seemed to use her as much as they can during the week and obviously rate her highly. When Carrie was doing 4 days a week, Rachel would often pop up in one of the other 3 co-presented shifts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in addition to working with Simon on Mondays 8.30-11.

Martine Croxall also works exceptionally well with Simon. Thursday/Friday shifts with Simon and Martine have been very watchable in recent months.

However, it would be a real shame if Carrie didn't work with Simon in some capacity when she returns - they really are a great double act!

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Sally Bundock (news) and Tanya Beckett (business) co-presenting BBC World News this morning. Perhaps it would better with Tanya on the news segment?

RIP Brian Hanrahan

Interesting discussion between Sophie Long and the DG Mark Thompson about the experience that Hanrahan had passed onto her and fellow younger journalists. Sophie presented a couple of weekend shifts with him in her early days on the News Channel.

Hanrahan was an excellent journalist and will be sadly missed.
