I think it's reasonable to assume that with no official announcement yet on the series being renewed this series may be do or die for the show on ITV.
X Factor will survive for as long as it takes ITV to find a replacement that can reach anywhere near the ratings and young skew X has. Even if the figures were an all time low during the last series they're still much higher than anything else they'd air in the all-important run up to Christmas.
Their post Dancing On Ice winter weekends dilemma is finally going to be solved three years later with The Voice, they can't risk a lengthy gap during the most important time of the year for advertisers.
