Star News will be available to many Sky subscribers from Monday.

What can we expect to see?

Is it any good?

I understand that the progs have english subtitles, does this work well on a News Network?

STAR News originally has a lot of English language news programming. Most of it has gone now unfortunately.

I flicked on to Star News earlier today, and was surprised to hear an old Sky News theme tune from the mid 90s as the music for the Star News Asia programme.

I also noticed that they were running several Sky News reports, complete with a (clock-free) Sky News DOG and the usual Sky astons. Obviously lifted straight from the Sky News International feed.

Yep Star News has some very nice idents, but far too many ads for my liking, shame they forgot Star Sports and Star Movies at home Wink

Star News Asia is slightly different to the rest of Star News' output - as well as being one of the few remaining English language programmes, it is also simulcast on Star World in South East Asia. Nice to hear the 1996 Sky music on there - I think there's a bit of Sky News and a bit of Sky Movies.

I was watching Star World when there was the big blackout in North America, and because everyone was thinking it was going to another Sept 11 they interupted normal programming (Star World sounds like a news channel, it's actually more like Sky One) to go to the Star News Asia studio where we were immediately handed over to Sky News (with that clockless DOG).

By the way, Sky News is included in the SE Asia Star channel line-up, but many more people have cable than satellite, and most cable companies there seem to prefer Fox News sadly.

It is currently on a Freeview on NTL.

Before they dropped the English part of the service, it used to have a really good theme which they played at the top of the hour, it suited very well to their Breakfast News programme, does anyone have it anywhere?

Though doesn't the channel have something to do with Rupert Murdoch?

When Sony Entertainment Asia had a Freeview on NTL, they were showing Star's cricket coverage for some reason.
