i'm sure many of us have fond memories of those 5 minute cartoons used to fill a space in the schedule during our childhood with such characters yosemite sam, elmer fudd, foghorn leghorn and of course bugs bunny.

but are these cartoons still shown anywhere? i occasionally channel surf the kids channels - i've stumbled across the original inspector gadget cartoon (which is still fab) but i've can't say i've seen a classic warner bros cartoon for years.

i'd like to get a fill of nostalgia and watch a couple of these again. surely they haven't been consigned to the bin?

Many cartoons made in the late 40s and early 50s are effectively censored now as some scenes are considered racist today. In fact about a dozen cartoons from the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies will never see the light of day again on TV or DVD because they're deemed racist towards African Americans.

Blackface jokes such as anything that explodes or goes off in somebody's are generally edited down by the studio so far Warner Brothers is concerned, whereas the same edits for MGM and Tom & Jerry look to have been done by Boomerang as they're not consistent. And of course Boomerang were forced to chop out scenes from Tom & Jerry - somebody complained to OFCOM because the cat was smoking a cigarette. Surprised the entire Tom & Jerry saga hasn't been pulled off the air because its too violent.
