Being a new subscriber to the Forums I hope I am posting this correctly.

Although I thoroughly enjoy Dancing on Ice, I must admit that I am very shocked and dismayed that John and Olga were given the highest mark for their routine. In fact one of the highest marks so far in the whole competition.

In all Ice skating competitions I have watched over the years, a fall automatically costs points not gains them.

I am not saying the routine was bad or that they did not deserve to go through despite the fall, but I question the reason why they were scored so high.. One of the judges after this round said that their duty was to mark the skating and content. If this is the case, there is no way John and Olga would have scored so high.

No matter how sorry the judges felt for the skaters, I personally felt extremely sorry for them, it was their duty to mark them for the performance they gave including the fall.

Only one is a professional skater in each pair and it is not the Olympic Championships, but that does not detract from the fact that the score for this pair was unfairly high.

It makes me think that all the other pairs need do is go onto the ice, fall and get marked high for doing so.

At the very least John and Olga should have gone into the dance off and if they performed well then, they should have undoubtedly gone through.

I shall be watching the next rounds with great interest to what scores are given if any other pair falls.

The judges are professionals and if they are going to apply the same rules in this competition as they do in the professional world, I would love for them to explain to me how they arrived at their scores for this pair.

In essence I feel that the judges are saying that all the other skaters were so bad that even with a fall John and Olga skated much, much better.

This of course is only my opinion and I am quite expecting to be 'shot down in flames'

I don't really watch the show, so can't compare to other peformances, but I managed to catch this one, and thought the whole routine was absolutely excellent, so the fall was only the slightest of incidents given that the recovery was handled well.

How much does the scoring go up to? I think they got something like 22 or 23, but probably would have gained a tad higher should the routine had been perfect.

As one of the judges said on the show, if they hadn't have fallen he would have awarded them 5.5 - 0.5 off the top mark of 6.0 - instead he marked them 5.0.

Their routine was the best of the night, and was therfore marked accordingly. The viewers voted them in anyway, and would have done so regardless of the judges points.
