This sounds interesting. Nice cheap way for BBC Three to get a panel show too. Is it cheaper to book a studio at 3am than at 3pm? Is it cheaper to pay a crew to work long shifts (don't know if they will be doing 24 hours) than several short shifts?

I'd prefer it to be on the red button and/or a dedicated channel as well as online though.

I doubt any of the crew would work 24 hours, it's an endurance feat for David Walliams after all. The hourly rate would be the same whether someone works 6 hours of 12 hours but those working overnight would get night payments. In terms of cost it probably would work out cheaper as there's less rehearsal time, a panel show like Buzzcocks will occupy a studio for a whole day and record an hour or more for 28 minutes of airtime.

You can apply to be in the audience via Standing Room Only, the audiences are doing 2 hours at a time

Not really a new idea though, been done many times before on the radio.

Anyway, Michael Aspel did the ITV Telethons which ran for hours on end, though I'm sure it wasn't all actually "presenting" as such.

Yep, Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave are doing 37 hours on Radio 1 in a couple of weeks, trying to beat Simon Mayo's record. It's a new idea on TV, I can't think of anyone else trying it

No, someone else took over for a while

Gabby Roslin did the full 27 hour 2000 today programme, she even nipped backstage to watch Eastenders and was late getting back to the studio

don't really see the point, if they were doing 24 hours to raise cash for some needy cause I'd understand but just to do it to say look at me I did it, anybody can stay up 24 hours if they really want to

In the first one Gaz Top did a kids bit in the morning for about two hours, and in the final one there was quite a lot of pre-recorded stuff, they showed a film, voted for by viewers, overnight and there was a two hour Disney Club special, plus Richard and Judy did a few hours in the morning, but Asp was still on for ages. You always knew what time it was based on what Asp was wearing - dinner jacket, normal suit, jacket and jeans, jumper and then back up to a dinner jacket to the end.

Who can forget Nick Davies presenting on Gems TV for 24 hours(?) selling 10,000(?) of the same item? He stayed on air all day and all night until they sold all 10,000 items IIRC.

I have very, very vauge memories of someone like Hale and Pace presenting some of the overnight hours on one of the ITV Telethons, dressed in pyjamas.

Watching some of this online - the schedule is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/rednoseday/24hourpanelpeople/schedule.shtml

Thought they might have done a Shooting Stars bit with Matt Lucas reprising George Dawes, but he doesn't seem to be involved at all.
