The straps also remind me of the on-screen graphics used by RTL Nieuws in the Netherlands.

That's exactly what a few viewers said on Twitter. Someone else also commented that the VR elements were a little ripped off from VRT's main commercial competitor VTM.

Largely positive views though. IIRC the xylophone-type tune has some sort of Dutch and Flemish connection. It was used in various forms on Belgian channel Canvas and on Nederland Een in the 2000s.

That is probably one of my favourite news looks ever - bold and distinctive and it aged rather well.



This doesn't match it at all IMO, and that VRT logo is one of the ugliest things I've seen.

Maybe I'm missing something but isn't this new VRT studio just the same one but on the opposite side of the wall with a new desk?

Edit : After looking at the old set I see some differences. The horizontal monitor strip threw me off.

Just got an alert on my phone that France 24 is launching a Spanish language channel in 2017.

I remember that well from the analogue satellite days!

I think the backdrop for the 1999 ITV News relaunch was loosely based on that design too.
