On CNBC Europe last night, MSNBC Live was on at 00:30-0400 GMT. I taped it, and i think it is a really good newschannel. On the tape, was some of Countdown With Keith Olbermann, and i love the relaxed way he presents. For a news channel, and Keith being funny and joking away, but still giving the news, i think it was really good. Then i watched some of HardBall with Chris Matthews, and it seems like an intersting enough programe. More intesting then BBC's HARDtalk, cos Tim Sabastian has no life in his voice, while Chris puts more life into it.

I think they should launch it on Sky, like what they did with FOX NEWS. And when Today, Nightly News, Dateline or Early Today is on NBC, they just show it on MSNBC.

whats your view on this?

MSNBC has tried to have their own identity seperate from NBC News. That's why they never show those programs on MSNBC. If they were added on to a feed in the UK, I think MSNBC wouldn't be too happy with it.

At one point MSNBC actually showed a repeat of the Today show in the afternoons, with their own live news inserts. Don't think that lasted very long though.

Why don't MSNBC and NBC News (in whatever its incarnations) do more link ups? Surely it would make more business sense.

I believe they did seperate election specials.... why?!

I'm aware Microsoft have a stake in MSNBC, but can they not "sell" their output to NBC (or vice versa) for dead cheap?

While you'd think that NBC and MSNBC would be more in-sync with each other, they're suprisingly not.

MSNBC has their own set of astons/titles/everything. They operate from just outside of New York City(as does CNBC). The only real link-up I saw was on the first night of the Iraq War when they took audio from NBC News' Special Report. They used their own graphics but the camera shots were the same.

I think after they found anthrax at 30 Rock, NBC Nightly News was produced at MSNBC for a brief period. (The day of the anthrax discovery, they went to the Today Studio for the news). It's not too often they simulcast each other.

just after that point saying that they are trying to be seperate from NBC, why do all the programes advertiase MSNBC.com on them with graphics ect.

about the election specials, becouse they are trying to be 2 different news services, they had seperate bullitans. for example, MSNBC's main political person is Chris Matthews while NBC News' is Tim Russnet. it is all a bit stupid having them as 2 different things!!

microsoft have a stake in MSNBC. That is how they got the prefix MS(NBC). as in MSN like MSN Messenger. They just supply the online service while MSN gets the advertising. But i do remember seeing somewhere, that MSNBC was once called the NBC News Channel. Can anyone confirm this, or do they have caps of the NBC NC?

a) This is in the wrong forum

b) Please stop posting absolute crap. You are obviously about 12 years old. ''I think MSNBC is really good and all programmes should be this good. It is really good. Really it is'', etc.

c) In answer to your most recent posting of dross...

MSNBC took over from the NBC-operated 'America's Talking' network, which was run by Roger Ailes (now at Fox News). It brought with it a few presenters and concepts.

America's Talking was mostly populated with crap like ''My Husband Is a S..t" and so forth.

Microsoft have always been annoyed that their side of MSNBC - the website - has performed impressively (it rates more highly than CNN.com) but the TV side has performed poorly and degraded the network as a whole.

1) im 13
2) my views are as valid as the next persons
3) people my age are the viewers of these channels in the future. and perhaps, like i want to be, a person who will internally devlop these networks.
4) i used good, becouse good is the only word that came into my head, and you must admit that the programes on MSNBC are that bit more interesting then those on BBC News 24/Sky News ect. becouse the people like Keith Olbermann have a bit of personality unlike someone that is one some shows on BBC n24/sky news

just to tell anyone be bothered, that MSNBC is no being shown on CNBC Europe (Sky Channel 510). The only thing it that they are playing all the business tickers ect all the time, and the Hotboards breakfiller is running too long! hope it is also on tomarrow!

And interestingly...or not...talkback was getting mixed into the audio accidentally for a while, where we heard the joys of the director lining up a sting for the break.

My god I've got to get out more...

Yeah. America's Talking was an attempt at an "all talk show" network; the closest analogue I've seen is TalkTV in Canada. It failed miserably. The once or twice I got to see it, it was beyond dreadful.

None of the AT concepts made it to MSNBC. MSNBC tried (in the beginning at least) to include more computer-related content, most notably their initial "signature" program, The Site , hosted by Soledad O'Brien (now co-anchor of CNN/US' American Morning ), and Leo LaPorte (formerly of TechTV's Call for Help , and now anchor of a similar show on G4TechTV/Canada), which focused primarily on the internet and internet-related topics.

MSNBC tried to put a "high-tech" spin on everything at that point -- keep in mind this was in the 1996-97 timeframe, the bubble hadn't burst yet -- but ultimately let The Site and many of the internet concepts fall by the wayside. The old ZDTV (forerunner of TechTV) was co-producer of The Site , and took those concepts with them to help build the ZDTV network when they parted company with MSNBC.

Microsoft's present ties to MSNBC are minmal, at least on camera. The MSNBC web site is produced on Microsoft's Seattle campus, and they maintain the bulk of the online editorial content. MSNBC television is produced from the same facility that CNBC is based in, in Ft. Lee, NJ, across the Hudson River from New York City.

Microsoft, as you pointed out, wishes the television network performed much better, but they seem to be content with the present arrangement. The website, OTOH, goes back and forth with CNN's site for the most visted (and some would argue best) news site on the web.

Actually, MSNBC and CNBC are based in seperate HQ.

CNBC moved from Fort Lee to Englewood Cliffs, NJ last year.

MSNBC is based in Seacaucus, NJ(along with WWOR-TV/9, though not the same facility).

NBC News is based out of 30 Rock in New York City.

Fort Lee/Englewood Cliffs and Seacaucus are just outside New York. All across the river.
