I think I’m right in saying that in Mark Lewisohn’s Radio Times TV Comedy Guide it’s ranked as the worst ever British sitcom. And rightly so!

I note that Talking Pictures TV were about to show the ‘Whizzkid’s Guide’ series featuring Arthur Mullard but suddenly replaced it with more Runaround. I wonder if they became aware of the long-standing allegations made about Mullard.

I seem to remember a truly dreadful Grease film inspired record duo on Top of the Pops, I think it was with Hilda Baker.

Edit; Not in my worst nightmare did I expect anything to be available on YouTube. Have a look if you dare

All LWT comedies made in the 1970s were execrable, but this one is particularly bad.

I don't remember it but know of it and I never realised it was an LWT sitcom, I assumed Granada, although I'm obviously getting it mixed up with the one about the undertakers.

When he was producer of Midweek on Radio 4, Victor Lewis-Smith once booked Arthur Mullard to present it when Libby Purvis was away

Sounds like it, although it's not as big they've not been public for years, albeit less well-known and lower profile than some other well known abusers. What an awful man he was

Interestingly Wikipedia says that his This is Your Life was canned when they heard about them from his son. Shows how things have moved on for the better. I wonder if that had happened today if it would have been reported by the team at TIYL? Not that they'd be at any obligation to

Agreed. It was like Terry and June but without the sophistication

There is this mini doc on YouTube about the series but I should warn everyone it’s not an easy watch

Apparently both Yus My Dear and the programme it span off from have both been called 'the worst sitcom ever' that's some achievement

Some sitcom analysts would also say the worst and definitely most tasteless sitcom was the BSkyB 1990 comedy “Heil Honey I’m Home” yes it was about a certain infamous Berlin couple who lived next door to a Jewish family...
