Watch for special edition of Calendar on July 29th.

Why - are the reports going to go out in negative like they did on the very first edition? Laughing

Almost the entire content of the special programmes and the features on Calendar seems to be from the first 20-25 years of YTV

I know people will say they haven't made anything decent since 1990 but that isn't true, there's lots of more modern programmes that are being overlooked

It must be said though that the "glory days" of any of the regional companies were pre-1993, so with that in mind I suspect the YTV researchers probably don't want to concentrate too much on the timeframe where everything fell apart.

TTTV did this ten years ago as well on their 40th anniversary material; concentrating on the period up to 1993, then tagging on a small piece at the end about recent years being "eventful"... hmmm.

Central actually showed a 30 minute programme to mark 20 Years of Central News in 2002, with Central News East and Central News West also marking their 20th birthdays with special shows in 2002 and 2004 respectively.

IIRC, that program was actually shown in the last days of December 2001 (although it did have a 2002 copyright date). Carlton's standard idents used to reappear for a few days in between the christmas and new year variants, and this programme was definately prefaced with a standard 'blue' news ident. It also seemed to be an unofficial look back at the whole of commercial broadcasting in the midlands, with much of the first half of the programme taken up by a look back at ATV (the programme itself starting with ATV's 'In Colour' frontcap).

Quote:
ITV Productions is the network production company, ITV Broadcasting is the regional companies which don't tend to make anything bar the news thesedays, all regional programmes are made by indies

Presumably then these programmes that end with (C)ITV 2008 and are 'A Production for ITV1' with no specific company mentioned are actually ITV Broadcasting productions?

'Formerly known as:
Anglia Television Ltd.'

So at the end of 2006, when the legal name of all non-network producing franchisees were standardised on 'ITV (Insert Station/Region Name) Ltd', what became of Anglia?

Westcountry did a similar thing in 2000 where 3 out of the 4 episodes of their '40 years of ITV' series were devoted entirely to the Westward/TSW era, and almost all of the designated 'Westcountry' episode was about the period between 1993 and 1996 (when they were independently owned), with only a brief 'Westcountry was sold to Carlton and it's brand named disappeared last year' section squeezed into the end.

The programme also notably ended with a cliched assurance that 'the best is yet to come' - rather predictably, it certainly wasn't.

The following year of 2001 was the last time Westcountry were able to provide a competent regional television service, and today the station is all but earmarked for closure, with some prat in London thinking that it's an awfully good idea to combine Westcountry with the old HTV West region (now larger than it was when the HTV brand was actually on screen) creating a gigantic single news service from Bristol running from Lands' End right up into what used to be part of Central's patch (the furthest points of this 'region' will be almost 300 miles apart by road)...how lucky are we?

On the last edition of YTV at 40 tonight, the late Richard Whiteley's partner Kathryn Apanowicz mentioned what we all really knew about the YTV chevron that was at the Kirkstall Road studios. It was never blown down, ITV took it down!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Tonight's edition focussed more on the present day. It looks like the interior of the ITV Yorkshire reception has had a makeover, for long enough it seemed to be in a 1968 timewarp

There were also clips of Christa Ackroyd and proof that she has always worn strange outfits even whilst at YTV

But what Richard said to her about his best days were now over just sums it all up really. Very fitting and one in the eye for ITV bosses if you ask me!
