YTV At 40

ITV1 Yorkshire on Thursdays from 10th at 7:30pm not sure if this started a week ago I hope not!

Quote:
A celebration of 40 years of YTV, from its precarious first few days in 1968, to its making of some of the most memorable programmes in television history.

What?! ITVplc allowing the broadcast of material that proves regionalisation once existed. Surprised

God I hope TTTV do something like this in January for their 50th.

Would be interesting to see if they do anything on 19th March 2009 to mark 40 years since the collapse of the Emley Moor mast.

Even a report on Calendar would be good!

That's good to see. Sadly the other 1968 newcomers have all either gone or lost their brand-name in 2002.

The TTTV one will be interesting -- at this point we'll be down to 1/2 an hour a week, and TTTV will have effectively absorbed Border Evil or Very Mad so I wouldn't be surprised if nothing happens.

There's Anglia and UTV to come next year as well -- UTV will certainly put something together, but will Anglia?

I hope UTV do something to commemorate 50 years, instead of repeating UTV Rewind with "urr Juli-un". They didn't even acknowledge their 40th anniversary in 1999, unlike Anglia (who brought back the night) and Tyne Tees (who brought back their name in junctions instead of Maggie Mash et. al. broadcasting to "our region").

But will HTV celebrate 40 years since they came on-air?

Certainly the west region only had a very short piece on 50 years since ITV began in Wales and The West back in January.

The HTV name is still very much acknowledged in the ITV West region, especially as Steve Scott, Lisa Aziz and Bob Crampton all have HTV history going back to the 1980's. I'm not sure that it is so taboo in the Grade era to mention the old regional names, whereas Carlton would have expressly forbidden it!

HTV were due to go on air at the end of July 1968, but after TWW gave up the franchise early, had to began an interim service. I don't think that the Harlech name was used on-screen until the end of July 1968?

50 years sounds better than 40 and the show was basically all about HTV anyway only one episode on TWW.

They can do 50 years for HTV in 10 years thats if ITV still exists in any form in Wales.

Sounds good for YTV, all Granada got for their 50th was a cake on Granada Reports, but we had a good ITV50 documentary on about 9 months prior so I think that made up for that.

I doubt they will do anything for HTV's 40th as firstly they only did a series earlier this year for 50 years of ITV in Wales but also the channel has been known as ITV1 Wales since 2002 even though HTV is still the franchise holder.

In Wales they never mention the HTV name anymore. Its always "ITV Wales" or "ITV1 Wales".

I remember HTV did an excellent series in 1998 called "Your Channel the first 30 years"
