Calendar News is the version fed to Emley Moor, which doesn't really have a describable area as much of the South area uses Emley - Sheffield is really a glorified fill in relay
A question about the opts- The opt branded as "Calendar News" which part of the region does that cover ?
If it's the North why does it not have North like the others
The 'Calendar News' opt covers the Emley Moor transmitter which is basically West Yorkshire, the northern part of South Yorkshire and the southern and eastern parts of North Yorkshire!
Therefore neither Calendar North or Calendar West would really be suitable.
Calendar South covers a very small area, which means not many people will have seen Geoff full size!
Notice they are linking to the opt-outs using the big screen, just like they did in the early 90s!
Yes, they are including more of the real news in the opt-outs than in the main programme itself, hence the increase to 2 opt-outs per show. I don't mind this, Calendar in my opinion still includes a lot more news than Look North Belmont, which is about 7 minutes of traditional news reporting and 20 minutes of froth.
Also, what has happened to John Shires popping in with the sport. Is it because it's the end of the football season and there just isn't enough sport, or is the sports news now to be included within the regional opt outs ?

Well I get the feeling that John Shires is on holiday at the moment, so it'd be Jason McCartney anyway, we'll have to see if he comes in tommorow
I'm not sure about this out and about feel either, the programme doesn't stand still. We start with Christine, then to Duncan then back to Christine, then to Duncan back to Christine then to Faye then to Christine then to Duncan then to Christine then back to Faye then back to Christine then to Duncan and then back to Christine to finish with!
Just something I noticed from tonights Calendar, but the plugged this Special Sheffield United programme tonight at 11pm, and then strght after the show was a trailer for "'The spice of life' (or something like that) tonight at 11 on Yorkshire" or was I dreaming again?

The Spice of Life is on at 11.30 after "Flashing Blades" at 11

I`ll throw my hat in the ring now - Here's my considered opinion about the new look Caldendar.
- New music and titles - dreadful, especially the dates on the desk top calendar, very 1980s
- New set - Very nice, though the presenter should be sat behind the desk with the newsroom backdrop and not perched on the end.
- Big Window - Not sure, too big, though smaller would be copy of the BBC national set,
- Duncan Wood - Always has been a very good presenter, not sure why he changed from national to local. Not sure he fits in, need to see him in the studio with Christine.
- Live OB's - certainly a case of style over content. The Sheffield OB was justified but over the top and should have been done at the top and bottom of the show, not every oyther story. The Circus and Beach OB's were pointless, again should be confined to top and bottom of the show.
- Local bulletins - Always a nice feature, though the second opt towards the end of the programme doesnt quite sit right, it feels uncomfortable.
I can see what they are trying to create, though it doesnt work too well. Though if you watch Calendar and Look North you certainly get two very different programmes, with the news treated in a different way.
Here's a question for those of you in the East. Does the same person generally do Calendar East all day, i.e Karen Petch today
And Geoff is reading Calendar South again tonight (I wonder how many viewers get Calendar South), I thought he was supposed to be making documentaries!

Generally yes, Karen Petch covered all the bulletins the other day.
