The music had character (also TVS Coast to Coast) (when one was proud of YTV as my region - even it I did come from the true gods own county of Lincolnshire)

I can't agree with that to be honest. Whilst I've always liked the Calendar theme and it's catchy little ditty, I always found earlier versions a little bit twee, especially when compared with other regions.

The last version of the music was one of the best in my opinion and the version launched today, is the most "newsy" I've ever heard it, whilst still keeping that main hook. Laughing

That studio's a bit garish - doesn't look much like a news programme, really!

The graphics actually fit in quite well with the current ITV News colour scheme, although this presumably won't last for long if the national news is getting a revamp later this year.

Is that actually a projected image of the Calendar News Centre on the background? Personally I think the programme looked much better ages ago when it came from sofa in the REAL newsroom! Does anyone remember the fly-on-the-wall documentary they made about it back then?

I don't think so, it's just a big picture, theres no one in the newsroona nd theres no movement, and when you see shots that are further out to the left it looks to be at a funny angle.

The titles arn't much either, ok its a wire frame of one of those flip over calendar's but is that it!

Well apart from the jumpy clock in the main Calendar titles.

I wonder why they don't bother with pictures anymore like the did 2 looks previous. With Look North's opening titles using abstract pictures of people rather than places, it would have been a good opportunity to have some traditional images from around the region in the opening titles

Yes, like Granada Reports, they have a nice mix of local images and news type ones, and a very nice set of titles they are too, much better than these Calendar ones, they look cheap and tacky in my opinion.

To continue the similarities with BBC News when they took the picture they should have had some men in suits stood in the background.

It'd be better if they had a real shot of the newsroom as it happens.

I do wonder if there will be a soft area (where will Jon, Debbie and Jo come in to chat about the weather on Friday and Jason with the sport?!), but as I said I expect they will need to build it where the old one was until Saturday (and as Christine now stands up, she could walk to it if it was joined up.

Here's another thought, I wonder how they will change the studio when stuff like YTV's The Midweek Match uses it..

Good point, especially as it has a huge 'CALENDAR' plastered across the front of the desk, maybee it's just a sticker? Very Happy

Central used to have a Central News logo on the front of their "desk" during the previous look. It just appeared to be a bit of plastic mounted on a lightbox - and was changed for things like Central Sports Special and the old Soccer Sunday.

I'm sure the same can be done with the Calendar logo. And talking of that - I had to look twice when I first saw it! It looked very Gill Sans esque it IS Frutiger - but the two fonts do look similar once you get them in capitals.

Did anyone notice that the font on the Calendar desk is Gill Sans and not Frutiger, as in the title sequence.

God i'm an anorak....i need a girlfriend. Hang on, I have one............and 2 children..........something isn't right here!

Christine appears to be reading the news from a Tupperware box.

This relaunch was not thought up over lunch, was it?

She also sounded like Mystic Meg, as if she was about to predict the news.

That music is very American-local-telly.

Other than that: nothing special.

Well, I like it. However, the titles, I suspect, may include some headlines that might spin out of those jumping clocks.

It was a slow news day today, so I reckon that it was more of a special tonight. I think they could both sit around that desk if they tried. I reckon a soft set might appear at some point, especially for interviews, tonight's interviews didn't really work.

The studio looks welcoming and fresh and the lighting was excellent.

The only minus points are the lack of an opening credit (maybe Christine & Duncan together) and an end cap. The three line credit at the end manages to mention YTV three times! If it was seperated into a proper end cap it would work a lot better.

Oh, and DAS, who's posts are just not funny and sarcastic, the word I was trying to get on the screen was b-r-a-s-s.

I looked at the captures on 'The TV Room' and from the captures anyway the font used is very good, nice colour scheme, but it looks like Christine Talbot is sitting on a side of a desk!

Is there a soft area as well?

Plus I think the astons are a wee bit small, but as I said, i'll have to watch it via a television set!
