This set is just boring - the best in my view was the eary 90's when the chevron rotated out of the liquid gold and the name Calendar ran across the screen with gold bars in between each letter, and the Calendar East backdrop the Humber Bridge and Lincoln Cathederial. The music had character (also TVS Coast to Coast) (when one was proud of YTV as my region - even it I did come from the true gods own county of Lincolnshire)
No imagination at all - YTV News managers need to drasically go back to the drawing board and start seeing the region as whole. This is just a re-think of BBC News/West Country Live.
Has everyone gone mad?! This must be the worst look currently airing. With clashing colours and a basic power point -esque cso studio, this makes central west seem like newsnight!
Serious question:
Does anyone think it is better than the old look?
It's not the most newsy name like 'Spotlight' either.
To put it simply, It's always been called that. I guess it's just because it covers an area thats difficult to describe by name, you can't just say Yorkshire because theres Linconshire there too, and you cant say North East as its not, and calling it 'Yorkshire, Linconshire, North Midlands and a bit of East Anglia Tonight' would be a bit of a mouthfull.
Also, bring Back Whiteley or at least Christa and Mike Morris. Calendar used to be excellent, but it is now possibly one of the worst five rgions of them all.
Channel Report (with probably 1/10 of Calendar's budget) is far better.
Well I like the new studio and the music, but its the bulletins that let the side down I feel.
As Square Eyes said a nice picture of the Humber Bridge and whatever in Sheffield should be on the east and south backdrops. Also I feel they should distinguish between Calendar News bulletins and Calendar News Emley Only bulletins, as at the moment and with the previous looks, Emley viewers only see one type of CSO backdrop.
The backdrop does seem to be too plain, notice the logo is now
Calendar
News rather than Calendar
News
as it was before
The titles arn't much either, ok its a wire frame of one of those flip over calendar's but is that it!
Serving an area from Whitby in Nth Yorkshire through to Lincolnshire and down to Kings Lynn in Norfolk is a vast region covering part of the North, East Midlands and East. Calendar is a neutral name as its name suggest on during the week, month and year - just like a Calendar on a wall..
It's not the most newsy name like 'Spotlight' either.
Well they cannot really call it Yorkshire News, Yorkshire Tonight or whatever, as people are watching Yorkshire TV in Lincolnshire and Humberside. You cannot really call it North East or North really. So they use it as it isn't being biased to Yorkshire. The name Calendar has been used for decades and has had many spin offs like Calendar Lunchtime Live, Calendar Commentary, Good Morning Calendar and Calendar Countdown.
I like the new music to it, I don't think it is the best version, it is better than the remix they used from 1996 to 2000 as they sounded cheesy. But they have given the music more of a Newsy feel now, but I still prefer the 2000 version. Has anyone got the opening titles in video BTW?
