I think maybe they should use the kitchen bit as well sometimes, it could be used for some interviews as a change to the soft set while having a cup of tea and things like they used to do on Live Lunch and Calendar Lunchtime Live. The thing I don't like about the soft set is the chairs, they look really uncomfortable to me. And the fake plasma was really bad, I remember the first time they used it on Lunchtime Live, the picture overlapped the 'frame' in parts.

And I agree about the chevron.

Didn't Granada Tonight used to get criticised because they were the only news programme to feature an in-studio Kitchen, therefore I think Calendar should stay clear of that.

The best kitchen look they had in my opinion was during Tonight when they used to have that little seating area at the side, which meant certain features on Tonight could come from here rather than the main Tonight set. Oh those were the days!

Calendar really needs to go back to a second half hour sometime during the day, with all the features like cookery and the movie review, the latter sometimes uncomfortably featuring on Calendar itself

I know I've mentioned this around a thousand times but have YTV considered producing a totally seperate version of Calendar for the Belmont TX area?

Don't know about the kitchen but they've done gardening segments which consisted of a wooden garden table and two bits of trellis with some ivy on in a blue background. That was pritty really bad, it just looked as though the'd spent £50 at a garden centre.

Probably not - they know they wouldn't have a chance against Peter Levy, Helen Morton and Paul Hudson!

Well to be perfectly honest Katherine, YTV & Calendar have been providing proper coverage to Belmonters for over 10 years. Look North are the new boys in town, and someway behind the times. Rolling Eyes

Yes, but they haven't got an exclusive 18:00 Belmont-only Calendar. YTV must be behind the times now as a result. YTV haven't got Kingston Communications doing Kingston Interactive Television for Hull. YTV don't have anything in comparison to the BBC Buses for Humberside/Lincolnshire. The BBC are putting much more money into this area. They're streets ahead!

But they do have the award winning 'Calendar Extra' service on the Kingston Communications service.

I can't help wondering just what the point of the BBC bus is. It is utterly and entirely pointless, it has about as much point as Ryan. And all thanks to the unique way in which the BBC is funded by johnny tax payer.

Do you pay a licence fee Katherine ?

No, as I'm not likely to live independently of my parents for some time. When the time came, I'd be fully willing to pay the licence fee unconditionally. I firmly believe the BBC is worth every penny. It's a credit not only to the British Isles, but to the world as a whole.

You are what I call a BBC freeloader, and there are loads of them on this forum. You rant on about how superb the BBC is, with all of it's money wasting fads, BBC buses, wasteful digital channels, yet you don't provide a single penny to the coffers.

I object to paying for something that I rarely use, it is time that this became a subscription only service so that those that do consume vast quantities of the output are funding it proportionally.

erm I read what Katherine said to mean that she lives with her parents so is covered by the license that they pay for. I fail to see how this properly licensed use can be considered freeloading.

As I mentioned about 6 months ago, Peter Levy has a small part
in Last of the Summer wine.

The clip has just been shown on Look North and the episode will be shown this Sunday on BBC ONE, so make sure you all tune in!

He plays a cyclist who when seeing Howard carrying a giant gorilla constume, crashes into some roadworks
