UKTV’s free-to-air factual channel Yesterday is shifting focus to offer more entertainment-led content and has unveiled a rebrand and three new series.
The design refres, which launches on 24 July, will include a new logo and idents and is part of Yesterday’s strategy to deliver “entertainment inspired by history” in order to attract a more diverse, younger audience.
The channel is keen to build on the success of style doc Cilla’s Unswung Sixties, which drew a consolidated audience of 430,000 in March, a record for an original commission.
A new slate of programing kicks off from November with Yesterday striking a raft of co-production deals with indies that will see it secure exclusive UK rights in exchange for providing a majority of the funding. The indies, which part-fund the shows, then retain international rights and DVD sales.
