Must admit I'm not a fan of using real presenters and real graphics in dramas - and it is a relative new thing too.

Considering how bad the fake ones are and I think it’s best to use the people who can play the role of newsreaders best, newsreaders.

I don’t understand why you’d be against it when the alternative is usually far worse.

Just catching up now.

Nice to see the return of the ITV News Channel in the not so distant future.

It's not that new. Bob Friend played himself in the original Mission: Impossible film 23 years ago and Bergerac (38 years ago, good grief - I was in it when I was 6) occasionally used real Channel TV newsreaders, and those are just off the top of my head so I'm sure there are earlier examples.

Doctor Who used Kenneth Kendall in The War Machines way back in 1966!

Now is that because a proper newsreader will tweak the script a bit like they would on a set piece bulletin and turn it into something that is phrased like a real news piece, or do actors find talking to camera and reading an autocue an alien skill?

I've known it to be the case where the news department is given a rough idea of the dialogue required, and it's written by them to be more authentic.

Finally caught up on Years & Years and it seems to become less gimmicky and more heartfelt as it's gone on.

I can understand why it may be a turn off, but I've found elements of it compelling to watch. The twist at the end of episode four was particularly shocking and upsetting for me.

However I can't help but feel it's an episode of Black Mirror stretched out over six weeks.

I still think of it as News 24, and loads of ordinary 'real world' people refer to it as that too.
