Has it really? I’ve seen a lot of positive comment. Are the ratings poor?

Yikes. Wouldn't it be because of the slot they put it in?

Tuesday at 9pm is BBC One’s second biggest drama slot of the week (behind Sunday)

All of these Russell T Davies shows seem to only appeal to a very limited audience and, apart from his work in Doctor Who, have very limited mainstream appeal. Cucumber on Channel Four was similar. If you believed the Twitterati it was a huge success whereas in reality the ratings were awful. I’m surprised he keeps getting high profile commissions when his audience is niche (North London intelligentsia and the Manchester set). All his series also seem to involve the overly dramatic death of a gay character in harrowing circumstances.

I agree - I haven't seen it but have heard so many positive comments. People going out of their way to mention it in conversation. I wonder if the consolidated ratings will jump through word of mouth.

Years and Years is really bad. I find the acting really poor even from likes of Emma Thompson. The relationships between the characters just don’t ring true either.

It feels like a Black Mirror but it just tries too hard and is just missing something.

I really like it. I guess I’m part of the minority.

It's incredibly bleak and probably just a bit too close to reality for most people. I think huge rating pullers like Bodyguard and Line Of Duty indicate people are looking for escapism right now not a reminder that we're teetering on the brink of annihilation.

I agree with The Spectator unusually.

Although I think that gives it too much credit.

Cucumber was a much more credible product from Davies.

Has to be a record low for a BBC1 drama series. It's been sub 1.5m for most of it's run, and at that level a real argument to pull it from the slot as although the BBC hasn't commercial factors to consider it still has to serve the licence fee payer the best way possible, and entertainment shows have been pulled from Saturday nights with highest ratings than that.

In my bubble the most talked about drama has been Chernobyl.
