I must say, I quite like Amazon's advert this year. The singing packages in the warehouse being delivered to people. A nice, catchy little song and not over sentimental, it's simple and gets the message across without being over the top. I wouldn't complain if that was used by them every year, just like the Coca Cola trucks.
I get what Sainsburys were trying to do but I don't find it very Christmassy at all. I think it's because the "real people" are in black and white, looking far too pleased with themselves, bopping about to a reggae-style tune.
The only redeeming quality is that it's a break from the over-produced ads - but even that is a flaw for a brand like Sainsburys. I don't think people want Sainsburys to be down to earth at Christmas. Lots of families I know shop there only at Christmas time because it is perceived to be slightly more special Tesco, Asda and the discount stores.
Also, if you're trying to put across a relatable, genuine picture of Christmas, do not incorporate the words "sticky tape" because you're scared of getting sued by Sellotape. Nobody says sticky tape unless they're on Blue Peter.
BTW tomorrow is I suppose when many channels will start adopting Christmas graphics
Yes. I thought I'd record a little today just to see if there was anything special for St Andrew's Day, only to see the Christmas presentation was in use.
