This years McDonald's ad feels better than last years one with the doll, but I don't find it charming or heart warming. If I was the dad the kid wouldn't be getting a carrot and I would be not going out again for another 8 of them!

It reminds me of that banned advert with the dead parent.

I'm predisposed to intensely dislike the Sainsburys singalong, and yet...

In a land filled with faux sentimental, grindingly mechanical, smug with their own sense of mini-film grandeur, "please share us like you share John Lewis, plebs", at least it's not taking itself too seriously.

It's cheap, tacky and ultimately disposable. What could be more appropriate.

And I *really* disliked their previous efforts, starting with the hideous attempt to commercialise WW1 that, alas, the majority seemed to get behind.

I'm not sure "cheap, tacky and ultimately disposable" are words I would have associated with Sainsburys prior to the "...is living well" campaign, mind, so I'd suggest they may have a wider problem there, but as a Christmas advert in a world of pap? Yeh, I'll take that over Debenhamserella.

I disliked the Sainsbury's advert on first viewing Jonny, yet the song is an ear worm that on hearing it loops around my head for a few hours until replaced. I've not been a big fan of their overall campaign, but in a time where big retailers are having to cut costs to compete resulting in redundancies they wouldn't have been able to justify the big spend this year.

It wasn't banned, McDonald's pulled it because of the public reaction.

Take the X Factor lot out though and you've got a simple but undoubtedly nicer than this years effort BBC One ident!

Yikes. If the X Factor was still at its peak then maybe it wouldn’t have felt so dated. That reindeer crossing the moon at the end is stock animation from Shutterstock, I’ve used it myself!

UTV either used that or something similar a few years ago.

I am warming to that Sainsburys advert, the only issue I have is the quality of singing in some parts. If there wasn't words on the screen you wouldn't have a clue what was being sung.

I love it. Lots of people are fed up of the over-produced and worthy adverts like those from John Lewis, Debenhams and the like. Every company trying to out-clever and out-emotion each other. Sainsbury’s have captured what Christmas is in 2017 for many people perfectly.
