I thought of that when watching the trailer for the new series. The saving grace with Britains Got Talent was that the set & studio space for the live finals was designed greatly to not impact on the atmosphere, get the feel & appearance of a massive audience & a great sized stage that made it feel larger than the auditions.
With the X Factor finals set that has been used for the past few series, I always find that it feels small, even if it is quite a large set. Because of the way that the screens were designed to fit into the set, it feels as though that's where the height of the set ends. I've always found the stage to be strange to, possibly because of that audience pit between the stage & the judges, it actually feels as though the stage fills a gap that the audience don't take up, rather than the stage being the main feature.
Hopefully the rumours are true of a new set, part of me is hoping that they can use the X branding within the set somehow.
I think it would have been a good idea to take it to somewhere bigger in the live finals. Britain's Got Talent finals seemed weird with a smaller studio audience than in the theaters. Seems the wrong way round if you ask me.

We all know the same studio is used for both shows. To me it looks like XF uses the width of the studio whereas BGT uses the length of the studio, making BGT appear bigger because there are more rows of seats. If there is a new set, I can see an evolution of the auditions and bootcamp set to be honest. More extravagent screens and extra lighting etc but essentially the same set up. The contestants names will most likely scroll down where the audition set has the city name.

I've not particularly liked the stage in recent years, but I think size wise the studio is fine for The X Factor - although often the acoustics have been a problem. A more prestigious venue for the final should definitely be considered.
With Britain's Got Talent it's link with the Royal Variety makes it difficult, but in reality the ratings showed this year the BGT final is currently a much bigger event than the Royal Variety anyway, with three times the audience. With their live shows stripped over a week though it would be easier to move the live shows to another venue, booking it out for just over a week, rather than once or twice a week for three months which The X Factor requires.

I agree that they should at least consider somewhere like the O2 or Excel centre for the final, like what American Idol does. It would make it feel so much more like an event.

The backing tracks are live.
I thought the first 10 minutes were a bit of a mess. Then we went from London (judges arriving in speedboats) to Manchester, then back to London again (cars this time; same venue) and it all seemed a bit odd really. I'm sure I'll get used to it though.
Sooooo, that one at the end, do they get to have a backing track if they want to now or was it put on in post production? I found it rather odd. I only turned on at 8 though so I missed the start if they explained.

I see there were able to White-wash Glasgow, and having to re do everything up here, ( how did there get away with that!)

as in a live band or live cd?
*must watch full show on demand at some point*
Live CD. They showed someone fading the CD up on a mixing console a few times, much like they do on BGT.
