Susan Boyle averaged 10m viewers (39%), with ITV News on 6.1m (29%) - against 3.4m (19%) for BBC News at the same time. Shocked
Well done, ITV.

19 million, eh. Why do so many care?

The 4 months of noisy hype results in anodyne music and makes Cowell millions. It's baffling and worrying so many people care about the show and the mediocrity within.

I have just turned to the tellybox startled by a typically overblown XFactor live tour ad, which was followed by a humble Save the Children plea.

Contrasting and sobering.

Words you'll never hear no 1:
"It's been a quiet week on the X Factor"

How many winners of New Face or Opportunity Knocks were spoonfed the Christmas Number One, then given unrealistic visions of stardom before being shipped off to the West End?

It's entertainment - most people don't want to mope around all day contemplating the plight of poorly people. That would be depressing. If your life is absolutely perfect then fine, worry away. But most people have enough problems of their own to deal with and that's why they watch shows like this, to take their minds off reality.

For what it's worth I think Simon Cowell earns every penny. He probably donates a lot of money to charitable causes too, so that kind of balances things out. Indeed this years X Factor charity single was in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

one day Sharon OB, was on TM and donate £10'000 to a charity, then Simon phone up and said how much did she give? and with thinking said he will give £20'000.

Simom is not some high class git, he earned every penny he made, and has worked hard, he did not look one bit out of place while having a nice cup of tea/coffee in ollys house. he looked after one susan B.

In relations to this show and Britain got T, ITV been doing these shows for over 50 years its part of ITV history its just most of the 90's talent ( along with variety shows) went out of favor), but there have started to come back in,

I believe Britain Got T could be here for another 20 years, there will always be something different, I just hope there could found a new comedian.

X factor, I think it gots any two at the most before something will have to give and a major change will take place, to keep it fresh.,

Personally I think that the winning song was a poor choice and I was dissapointed that Stacey didn't win although in all fairness in the final I didn't think she was the best singer. For X Factor 2010 I would like a neutral 5th judge and also the format to change which was suggested on the Xtra Factor. The News Of The World reported that the number of contestant in the live rounds would increase to 16. If it does to link in the suggestion on the Xtra Factor, I would like each judge to be in charged of one person in the 16-25 category, one boy (Over 25), one girl (Over 25) and one group.

Five judges would be too many, and I think 16 acts would be too (one of the main criticisms of Strictly is it runs for too long). I think perhaps a 13th wildcard might not be a bad idea, with the judges picking one loser from each category to have a chance to make the live shows.

No one I speak to thinks Strictly runs too long. That sounds like the kind of thing said by someone who doesn't enjoy it.

Unlike X Factor, the contestants start off *not* being able to do what they are there to learn, and so 3/4 months gives them time to learn and show progression.

With the X Factor I didn't really see much difference from week 1 to the final with some of them.

The fact is, now that its ITVs golden goose, you can expect to see X Factor increase in scale and duration in every possible way. Cowell productions are the trick in ITVs one-trick stable, so I sincerely hope you're able to stomach them - because that's all you're going to get.

LOL - and that sounds like the sort of thing said by someone who doesn't enjoy The X Factor! Very Happy (not that it's not a valid point!).

I think if they go to 16 they shouldn't spread it out over more than 12 weeks, with probably a double elimination in the first week, and then at the semi-final stage when 5 remain and the judges vote is scrapped. And another issue with 16 contestants would be the running time - based on this series the first shows would have to be around two and a half hours long, or they cut down the songs so they barely sing a verse and chorus each.

Yup - got me there.

Double eliminations are always good to shake up a talent show - but you'd get more impact if you did that in week 5 or 6.

Wouldn't surprise me one jot if they expanded the Saturday night shows into a 3 hour marathon, and peppered with with acts and dancers and whatnot.

They ought to milk the hell out of this thing while they can - you never know, they might make enough to pay their staff's pensions!
