These rumours happen every year. Not to say this time they won't turn out to be true, I'm just not getting ahead of myself.
I'd be sad if it moved out of a TV studio. There's enough things shot on location without such a big studio entertainment show going to somewhere like the Excel too.
This could hit Fountain hard if true. If it worked for X Factor, what would stop them moving Britain's Got Talent out too?
I'm guessing that by hosting it at Excel, o2 or somewhere similar there would be a lot of extra hassle. Fountain obviously comes into it's own for a show of X Factor's size both in terms of studio space but also in dressing rooms, 2 galleries for ITV1 & 2 etc.
By hosting X Factor in an arena would it not cost more with OB trucks etc. on top of the hiring costs of the space compared with Fountain?

In terms of event tv theres not really much more that The X Factor can do to top it's previous sucesses, so making it a huge event would draw in the viewers (a la Susan Boyle) so the O2/Excel makes sense. The profit to be made would be huge, he (Cowell) could even sell tickets to it. I bet you one of your english pounds that the final will not take place in a normal tv studio.
